An NYPD officer has died of his injuries after being struck by a car on the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Tuesday, cops said.
The highway officer was investigating a previous accident on the highway in Fresh Meadows at around 2 a.m. when he was struck by the vehicle, according to police.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, where he later died.
The driver of the car was apprehended at the scene.
Police shut down eastbound traffic on the expressway as they investigated the crime.
