Cohen’s lawyers asked House Democrats to intervene on his behalf after his testimony on capital hill, but they were reluctant to do so.
He was originally scheduled to begin is sentence in March, but a judge allowed him a two-month delay to recover from surgery and get his affairs in order.
Cohen is the only person convicted with a crime in connection with the hush-money payments to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump.
Prosecutors have said Trump told Cohen to arrange the payments to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal before the 2016 election. Trump denies a one night stand with Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, as well as a longer affair with McDougal.
Cohen also pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about a Trump Tower project in Moscow, as well as tax evasion and bank fraud.
Once he gets to prison, Cohen will be assigned a job, such as mowing the lawn or cleaning. He’ll also get sets of clothing, bedding and towels and will join the approximate 115 inmates at the facility that houses other celebrity inmates including ‘Jersey Shore’ stare Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and Fyre festival fraudster Billy McFarland.
