Boy who thew message into the ocean gets response 10 years later

College student who threw a message in a bottle into the ocean off Massachusetts when he was a 10-year-old boy gets a reply NINE YEARS later after it washes up 4,000 miles away in France

A Massachusetts college student has been left ‘mind blown’ after he received a response to a message he threw into the ocean when he was 10 years old.

Suffolk University sophomore Max Vredenburgh, now aged 19, says he put the letter into a glass wine bottle that he threw into the water at Long Beach in Rockport in August 2010.

Vredenburgh’s father texted him Friday to say that he had received a letter from someone named ‘G. Dubois’ who found the bottle on a beach at Contis-les-Bains in Southern France on October 10.

I’m 10 years old, I like apples, I like the beach, my favorite color’s blue, I like animals, I like cars, and I like outer space,’ the letter reads

In Vrendenburgh’s original letter he listed some of his favorite things. ‘Hello, my name is Max,’ the letter reads.

‘Whoever is reading this letter please write back. I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I’m 10 years old, I like apples, I like the beach, my favorite color’s blue, I like animals, I like cars, and I like outer space.’   

Nine years and nearly 4,000 miles later, one G. Dubois discovered his letter and wrote back.

‘I found your message in your bottle on October 10, 2019 on a beach in France between Contis and Mimizon,’ G. Dubois wrote. 

‘According to your date, August 21, 2009, it will have taken 9 years to cover the 6000 kms that separates us. You had grown a lot during that time: 10 to 19 years old.’

Vredenburgh posted photos of the letters to his Twitter account Friday saying he was ‘mind blown’.

‘On August 21, 2010 I threw a message in a bottle into the ocean from a beach in Rockport, MA,’ he wrote. 

‘On October 10, 2019 that letter was found on the beach in France. I am mind blown. 9 years.’
