James Martin welcomed fellow chef Gareth Ward onto Saturday Morning this weekend. James chatted to the Michelin star chef in the New Year’s Day episode of the ITV show while cooking up some hearty winter dishes. However, as James plated up some food, Gareth took the opportunity to poke fun at the TV chef.
In a bid to celebrate the new year, James cooked some comfort food perfect for cold January weather.
While interviewing Gareth, James showed viewers how to make an onion squash soup.
After completing his cooking demonstration, James plated up the warming dish for his fellow chef to taste.
“Cheers chef!” Gareth exclaimed as James passed him a plate.
Highlighting how the meal was packed with veggies, James explained it featured red onion, parsnip, celeriac, kale, leek and more.
Detailing what was in the dish, James said: “Cheese, then you’ve got the veg inside.
“This is what you want isn’t it at this time of year?” he commented.
After taking his first taste of the dish, Gareth made it clear he was impressed with the flavour.
“It’s unbelievable that is,” he remarked.
“It’s not bad,” James replied, proud of his cooking.
“No, you do alright cooking, don’t you?” Gareth said, teasing his fellow chef.
James burst out laughing as he said: “It’s alright in 10 minutes that.”
“You’re alright you,” Gareth reiterated.
“Well, a bit of practice. We’re on year 29,” James replied, highlighting his lengthy career in the culinary world.
“I reckon you might nail it one day, you know,” Gareth teased.
“I’ll do alright, will I?” James laughed.
The TV chef insisted his onion squash soup was a great winter warmer for this time of year.
He informed viewers they could find the recipe for the dish on his website.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs Saturdays at 9:25am on ITV.
