Escape to the Country airs on BBC One and the series is now in its 21st season. With the desire for cleaner air and picturesque views high on the list of priorities for new homeowners, families have been keen to tune in for tips. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the show’s presenter, Nicki Chapman.
Who is Escape to the Country presenter Nicki Chapman?
The most recent episode of Escape to the Country saw prospective buyers visiting Hampshire to find the perfect home.
Nicki Chapman helped an artist find a home with potential for a new studio, and garden to practise yoga.
The presenter also headed to the South Downs National Park to help out with a tree-planting project.
Nicki Chapman, 54, is a British presenter, PR agent and talent show judge who has years of experience under her belt.
Fans may remember her as being a judge on the talent shows Popstars and Pop Idol.
The star is also known for hosting Wanted Down Under and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Radio listeners may have also heard her on BBC Radio 2 as she occasionally stands in as presenter.
The Kent-born presenter started off in the music industry, working for MCA records when she was 21.
She has managed celebrities including Billie Piper and Amy Winehouse and has worked with the Spice Girls and David Bowie.
In terms of her TV career, she came into the spotlight as a judge on Pop Stars in the early Noughties.
When it comes to her personal life, the star is married to music mogul Dave Shackleton and they live in London.
When she is not presenting, she acts as an ambassador for many charities including British Dressage and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The presenter and broadcaster has her own website and she has provided plenty of insight into her career.
Her site said: “Lockdown presented an opportunity for Nicki to further spread her wings, this time working on a Podcast from her home studio.
“The chosen subject is Talking Success…. where Nicki interviews some of the biggest names in the media and the arts.”
She is also on social media and has been sharing clips from Escape to the Country on Instagram.
Her most recent post, from April 26, said: “Yes it’s a new one! Today on @escape_country I’m on hand to help a very creative artist find a gorgeous period property in Hampshire with potential for a painting studio & a garden in which to practise her yoga.”
The artist said she “loved the kitchen” and was surprised by the size of the bedrooms at the property.
The presenter has also been encouraging members of the public to connect with the outdoors during lockdown.
She is a lover of nature herself and said her own garden has become her sanctuary.
Chapman said: “Throughout the week @the_rhs will be encouraging everyone to ‘Get Your Dose of Vitamin G – that’s vitamin ‘green’ – by taking a few minutes each day to connect with nature.
“This year we’ve come to rely on our gardens & green spaces more than ever, & they’re really looking forward to hearing how many of you have experienced the feel-good power of nature this past year.”
The next episode of Escape to the Country will be set in Devon and it will see Jules Hudson take the lead.
Jules will be getting involved with a woodcraft exercise while helping a couple wanting to make a new start.
Escape to the Country airs on weekdays on BBC One.
