We’ve all heard of the cliché office romance and people falling in love after meeting at their workplace and that doesn’t change just because your place of work happens to be the set of Emmerdale.
Sometimes on-screen chemistry leads to real-life romance, with couples who started as a fictional pairing on Emmerdale becoming official offscreen, or in other cases actors who worked on the soap at the same time have ended up together both during their time on the show and afterwards.
These couples have gone on to move in together, get married and in some cases even have kids!
Here’s a list of all the Emmerdale stars who are couples in real life:
Emmerdale stars who are couples in real life
Chris Chittell and Lesley Dunlop
Emmerdale stars Chris Chittell and Lesley Dunlop, who play veteran Eric Pollard and Brenda Walker respectively in the soap, have been together since 2008.
The couple got married in Cornwall in June 2016 in a service attended by their loved ones and – of course – some of their Emmerdale costars including Nicola Wheeler, Bhasker Patel and Sam Hall.
Chris and Lesley’s characters did enjoy a brief fling on-screen once upon a time, but while the couple are happily married in real life, their character’s romance didn’t last nearly as long – much to Lesley’s relief!
The actress admitted at the time that she wasn’t a big fan of acting out the storyline, saying: ‘I didn’t like it when Brenda and Pollard were an item and we had to do kissing scenes in front of everybody.’
Max Parker and Kris Mochrie
Max portrays Luke Posner on the ITV serial drama and Kris was cast as his brother in show – Lee.
Although Kris’ character has since been killed off (Lee Posner was killed by Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) as revenge on behalf of sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins)) the two actors have stayed in touch and appear to have confirmed they are now dating.
The stars went on holiday together in September 2020 and a source told The Sun in July: ‘They met on Kris’ last day filming and just hit it off… It’s early days but they’re really enjoying themselves and who knows what the future holds.’
Laura Norton and Mark Jordon
Couple Laura Norton and Mark Jordan, known for playing Kerry Wyatt and Daz Spencer respectively on the soap, were known for keeping their romance largely under wraps after meeting on Emmerdale, but the couple have been more public about their relationship over the last few years.
In an interview with Lorraine, Laura described how the pair met on set and became friends first before their romance grew from there: ‘I don’t know what other people would say that are in a relationship that work together, but we absolutely loved it,’ she said.
‘We loved it. We would rehearse the night before and travel into work together, he’s just a dreamboat and I love working with him.’
The pair got engaged in January 2019 but have been unable to tie the knot this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Last month the couple announced that they are expecting their first child together and although they are yet to find out the baby’s gender, they did reveal the new arrival is due in January 2021.
Kate Brooks and Michelle Hardwick
Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick — who portrays Vanessa Woodfield in the long-running ITV soap —is married to show boss Kate Brooks.
Actress Michelle only confirmed that she was dating Kate in October 2018, choosing National Coming Out Day to share their happy news.
The soap producer and the star said ‘I do’ in Memphis, Tennessee, in September 2019 after getting engaged the previous December.
The couple announced they are expecting their first baby earlier this year, with the new arrival due next month.
Zoe Henry and Jeff Hordley
Emmerdale stars Zoe Henry and Jeff Hordley – who play Rhona and Cain on the soap – didn’t actually meet on set but have been a couple since their college days.
The pair, who married in 2003, have two children – Violet and Stan and offscreen, have much quieter lives, as they love nothing more than working on their allotment and growing veg. Jeff has to cast off those Cain Dingle vibes somehow!
While the couple’s characters have shared the screen on numerous occasions in the past, Zoe has previously revealed she ‘prefers not to work’ with her real-life husband saying: ‘I think we probably both prefer not to work together!
‘Of course we enjoy each other’s company, yet I think we quite enjoy each other’s independence at work.’
Natalie J Robb and Jonny McPherson
Emmerdale’s Natalie J Robb and Jonny McPherson have been dating since January 2020, but only went public with their romance over the summer after a Zoom call which saw them speaking from the same home together caused a frenzy with fans online.
The couple moved in together after just two months of dating in March 2020, due to the coronavirus lockdown restrictions in the UK causing them to start living together unexpectedly.
Joanne’s stint on Emmerdale has since ended but the actress has continued to appear on soaps since including Waterloo Road, Casualty and Coronation Street.
Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden
Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden, who play Debbie Dingle and David Metcalfe in the ITV soap, started dating back in 2007 after meeting on the set of Emmerdale.
The pair got engaged in 2009 and despite a brief split in 2013, went on to rekindle their romance the following year and then eventually tie the knot in a surprise wedding ceremony in February 2018.
Charley and Matthew have three children together, after welcoming their latest addition to the family in July 2019.
The couple are parents to three sons, Buster, ten, Bowie, four, and baby Ace, who has recently turned one.
