Virgin River may be known for its relationship drama, but one aspect of the Netflix show that fans love is the setting. The town is idyllic, with all three seasons showcasing breathtaking landscapes and scenery. Mel Monroe’s (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) cabin is an iconic location and is in fact a real place.
Where is Mel Monroe’s cabin?
The small-town life portrayed in Virgin River has captured fans’ imaginations, with each and every location now iconic for viewers.
The town of Virgin River is a dream for fans, and sadly it will stay that way as the author of the original novels, Robyn Carr, has confirmed the town is completely made up.
“People always write and say, ‘Where is it? I want to go there,'” Carr told Entertainment Weekly, “and I have to remind them that it only exists in our hearts and minds.
“Isn’t it a sad commentary that that’s considered utopian? A town where people are nice to each other and help each other, and that’s utopian?
“But that’s really how they describe it in their study: It’s idealised, it’s utopian, it’s the perfect small town.”
While Virgin River might not be real, the locations still are, but they are not located in Northern California as the show is set.
In fact, the show is filmed in Vancouver, Canada, as well as British Columbia, Canada.
As for Mel’s cabin, it is situated in Murdo Frazer Park which is also in British Columbia, Canada.
Murdo Frazer Park is a scenic national park and is completely open to the public to visit and explore.
However, Mel’s cabin is not as easy to get to as fans may hope.
Much of the filming takes place on private property or in closed-off locations.
However, most of the locations can still be visited by fans keen to discover Virgin River for themselves.
Can you stay in Mel Monroe’s cabin?
While Netflix uses the cabin for filming, it is not open to the public to visit.
In real life, the cabin is used as the park caretaker’s home, and is, therefore, private property.
Viewers still keen to visit the filming locations will still be able to see the cabin in the park, it is just not accessible.
However, not all the key locations are locked away, as Jack’s (Martin Henderson) restaurant is a real-life restaurant in the Vancouver area.
The Watershed Grill is located in Brackendale, with the restaurant’s exterior being used in most of the filming throughout the three seasons.
The last main location fans may want to visit from the show is Doc Mullin’s (Tim Matheson) home.
The mansion is at 122 First Street in Queen’s Park of New Westminster, Vancouver.
This is once again private property and is not accessible to the public.
Virgin River seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix now.
