Next month Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage hits cinemas, reintroducing Tom Hardy as the titular anti-hero, Venom. The symbiote has his work cut out for him this time, however, as he is due to go against Carnage (Woody Harrelson), a devious, malevolent symbiote renowned for being a serial killer. The film’s director, Andy Serkis, revealed that in the future Venom’s foe will switch to Spider-Man.
Serkis, who is known for playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, recently commented: “Look, that’s the question on everyone’s lips… They want to know when Venom is gonna meet Spider-Man.
“But personally, it’s never gonna happen… I’m only joking! Of course it’s gonna happen!”
Although this news is extremely exciting, Serkis did have some reservations about the crossover news.
He added: “Look, it depends when you want to get there, and also, what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories then, to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between now and then.”

Serkis continued: “So, in a way, by rushing to it, you might be closing the door. Whereas, if people are loving this world, then I think all of those other characters that are there in the canon, there in the lore of Venom, for instance, all of the supervillains in Ravencroft, there could be some fantastic stories to be had as well.”
With a smile, the director added: “But, point taken. Yes, everyone wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man, [but[ it’s appetite.
“They’ll be sacrificing all of that stuff if they want to rush straight to that.”
This news follows reports that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was looking to bring Venom over to the Marvel universe at some point.
The report from April this year suggested Feige wanted to put Venom in the mix with not just Spider-Man, but the rest of the Avengers as well.
In the meantime, the first screenings of Venom 2 took place earlier this week at some special fan events with Hardy and Serkis in attendance.
From the screenings, the first reactions for the sequel movie have been overwhelmingly positive.
However, a lot of mystery has been placed around a supposed post-credits scene.

One excited fan wrote on Twitter: “Venom Let There Be Carnage is a frenzied mix of buddy movie, romance, and horror.
“It wastes no time in getting down to business… Hardy is on fire and Harrelson *is* Carnage.”
They added: “Do not miss the credits!”
Another excited fan added: “Holy f**k, that post-credits scene. Hold tight.”
Rumours surrounding the merging of timelines has come up frequently recently following the ending of Disney Plus series Loki and the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Loki’s ending ushered in the multiverse collapsing on itself, destroying any alternate versions of the MCU characters.
Meanwhile, the trailer for No Way Home seemed to also bring the separate universes into one, with the arrival of Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin.
Venom 2 hits cinemas on October 15.
