The Crown's Bertie Carvel transforms into Tony Blair as he's pictured with family on Netflix season 5 set

THE Crown's Bertie Carvel transforms into Tony Blair as he's pictured with his family on the Netflix season 5 set.

The Doctor Foster star will play the former British Prime Minister in the upcoming season of the hit Netflix show.

Bertie, 44, was seen filming scenes in Kent with his on-screen family and actress Lydia Leonard, who will be portraying Tony Blair's wife Cherie Blair.

The scenes see the couple casting their votes in County Durham, mirroring the moment in 1997 when the real Tony and Cherie cast theirs in Trimdon Colliery.

Bertie wore the same outfit as Tony, consisting of a white shirt, smart trousers and a red tie to honour the Labour party colours.

Meanwhile Lydia was dressed like Cherie in a brown top with a white collar and matching trousers, as they walked along with their three children.

The actors were then seen surrounded by paparazzi extras and policeman, as Bertie waved as Tony.

At the time, the Labour party was poised to sweep to victory after years of the Conservatives being in power.

Following the Labour party win, Tony, then 44, became the youngest person to be Prime Minister since Lord Liverpool became PM aged 42 in 1812.

The couple then moved into 10 Downing Street with their children, Nicky, Euan and Kathryn.

It was revealed earlier today that filming on The Crown had been forced to stop after eight members of the crew tested positive for coronavirus.

Last night Netflix confirmed: "The Crown finished filming one day earlier than planned for the Christmas break following a few positive cases within the team, thus ensuring others' safety and so that everyone on production can enjoy a festive break with their loved ones."

Season five will see Imelda Staunton take over from Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown seasons 1-4 are available on Netflix now, and season five will be released in November 2022.
