Fans of The Big Bang Theory have seen Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) evolve massively over the twelve year run of the CBS hit. The character has come a long way from the early seasons which saw his need for logic overrule his understanding of human emotions. The final seasons saw Sheldon take to the stage with his wife Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and give an emotional acceptance speech for their Nobel prize award, all dedicated to his friends. But why was Jim Parsons the one to play Sheldon and take fans on this journey?
Now, it has finally been revealed just why Jim Parsons stood out when bosses were casting the role of Sheldon.
TV Insider recently shared an exclusive first look at one of the featurettes on the Big Bang Theory complete series Blu-ray and DVD set.
The first look contained heartfelt interview with Sheldon Coper star Jim Parsons alone with creators Chick Lorre and Bill Prady.
Speaking in the clip, Chuck said: “It was astonishing. I didn’t even believe it when it happened.

“I never anticipated the character being the way he crafted it.
“It was funny, it was touching, it was real… so when that happens you say thank you God, book em’ and move on”
However, co-creator Bill Prady hinted that there wasn’t always this level of confidence in the character.
Bill added: “I said, filled with inexperience and enthusiasm, I said to Chuck ’that’s the guy that’s the guy!’
“and Chuck said ‘he’s gonna break your heart he’s never gonna give you that performance again.’”

Meanwhile, fans have spotted a huge plot hole in the series after a recent rewatch.
The episode titled The Holiday Summation saw Sheldon upset after his mother told him she used to be worried that he would have a lonely life before he met Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and the gang.
After being comforted by Amy, Sheldon proceeded to hit back at Mrs. Cooper’s comments by listing his friends.

He said: “I have Leonard, Howard and Raj… Stuart, Penny, Leonard’s mum, Bernadette, Wil Wheaton…”
After she questioned where she ranked in the list, he replied: “I was going chronologically. You’re right between Koothrappali’s father and Omar, the one-eyed Sparkletts guy.”
However, despite Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Wil both making their first appearances in season three, episode five in the episode called The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary, Sheldon didn’t meet Bernadette until five episodes later.
