The 10 best new theatre shows to book tickets for as theatres reopen in 2021 – here's our top picks

THIS week, life became a little more normal again with the opening of indoor dining and theatres.

If you're looking to celebrate after lockdown, a night at the theatre is a great option, and a great way to support the arts after a year in the dark.

However, if you're not sure where to start then don't panic as we've picked out some of our favourite theatre shows that are available to book now.

Revellers will be pleased to see that a number of classics including The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Wicked are back, and slowly reopening over June and July.

But it's good news for theatre fans, as alongside these old favourites, a number of new shows have finally opened, after being postponed by you know what.

Most of these are on the West End, so you're in luck if you live close to London, but if not it's the perfect excuse for a staycation.

Here are some of our top picks to book this summer.

1. Back to the Future The Musical

Great Scott! Back to Future the Musical is one of the first new shows to open post Covid, and will be performing at London's Adelphi Theatre.

Tickets are priced from £19.50, with shows starting in August 20 and running until February 13 2022.

2. Cinderella

Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest fairy-tale musical will be performing at Gillian Lynne Theatre, with shows starting June 25 2021 and running until February 13 2022.

A gritter take on the fairytale, it'll feature Carrie Hope Fletcher and is written by the Oscar winning 'Promising Young Woman' writer Emeral Fennell.

3. Frozen

One for the whole family to enjoy, Frozen is a musical version of the hit film.

It was meant to be one of the biggest shows of 2020, and we're expecting it to be incredibly popular.

Performing in London's Royal Drury Lane Theatre, tickets are priced at £20.

4. Hamilton

One of the most popular musicals, ever.

Hamiliton tells the story of the founding fathers, and has been a huge hit since it hit the West End in 2017.

Blending  hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway, it's won an incredible 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical.

It'll open again on August 19, and demand is expected to be high.

5. Everybody's Talking About Jamie

One of the first major musicals to reopen, Everybody's Talking About Jamie is performing at London's Apollo Theatre.

A feel good musical about fitting in, and standing out, Everybody's Talking About Jamie is sure to inject some fun, and glitter into your life.

6. Magic Mike

Maybe leave the kids at home for this one.

Magic Mike Live has been created and co-directed by Channing Tatum himself, and is a larger than life, huge theatre production based on the films.

Audiences are surrounded by dancers, and one of a kind acts; making it a night you won't forget in a hurry.

7. Hairspray

Hairspray is back on the West End with none other than Michael Ball reprising his Oliver Award winning role as Edna Turnblad.

Featuring all the favourite songs including Good Morning Baltimore, You Can't Stop the Beat, and Big, Blonde an Beautiful, it's sure to be a hit with threatre fans.

8. Dirty Dancing

This year Dirty Dancing is getting the Secret Cinema treatment, and we can't wait.

It's not opening until July 2022 but will be a full outdoor experience that will transform visitors back to 1963.

9. The Lion King

Love the Disney film? Make sure you don't miss the musical.

It's been a hit on London's West End for 18 years, performing at the iconic Lyceum Theatre.

If you're looking for a touch of nostalgia, it'll open again on July 29.

10. Doctor Who: Time Fracture

Doctor Who: Time Fracture is an immersive Doctor Who experience.

Starting in London during the Blitz, visitors will travel through numerous time zones and alien worlds with plenty of Cybermen and Daleks thrown in for good measure.
