Strictlys Matt Goss admits show is emotionally challenging as dance takes over his life

Strictly Come Dancing star Matt Goss has admitted his time on the show has been “emotionally challenging”, as his training schedule for the energetic Jive led to the dance “taking over” his life.

Ahead of his performance on Saturday, in which Matt will be joining his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova as they perform to 'All Shook Up' by Sir Paul McCartney, the singer opened up about his experience in an interview with Pat Sharp on Greatest Hits Radio.

Clearly having poured his heart and soul into rehearsing for the performance, Matt admitted: “All I know is that my knees are hurting! The jive is relentless from start to finish and it completely takes over your life.”

While this might put some dancers off, it hadn’t deterred Matt, as he even revealed one added perk of such a gruelling workout while performing the dance.

“It does allow you to eat as much curry as you want because you burn so many calories but it’s intimidating. It’s also been a lot of fun though, and I’m looking forward to dancing it on Saturday night!”

During the course of the interview, Pat also mentioned the speculation on social media that Matt had been wearing tight trousers to score himself some extra points, something the singer was quick to dismiss.

“Absolutely not! Although they don’t leave a lot to the imagination!” He exclaimed, before revealing that despite his showmanship, he was actually a very shy person.

“Look, I’m quite a shy person off stage, I’m certainly quite reserved, but when I’m on stage I do feel very at peace and it’s the happiest place for me in my life when I’m on stage,” he revealed.

“Off stage is difficult for me, so this environment is challenging emotionally, coming out of my shell is genuinely very challenging. There’s no ego in my heart and it’s just about that moment when you have to come out of your comfort zone.”

Matt also went on to compare his experience to his recent residency in Las Vegas, as it was performing for the audience that truly resonated with him, both on Strictly and while on stage.

“On stage four nights a week in Las Vegas is definitely where I excel and where I feel very connected to an audience, but this experience is all brand new to me and I just have to put that Vegas showman into the dancing,’ he concluded.
