Nicola Adams OBE has signed up to the 2020 series of Strictly Come Dancing and her fellow contestants are worried because of her Olympic-level of fitness and fierce competitiveness, she is focused on the Glitterball Trophy. This year, she will be partnered with a female professional dancer for the first time in the show’s history, and has also spoken out on the costumes she has asked to wear during the live shows.

Last year, Anneka Rice swore she didn’t want to wear a dress, but she was convinced by the costume department to put on a pale pink ball gown for a Waltz.

However, Nicola has said she will strictly be wearing trousers for her time on the show.

Speaking to and other members of the press, Nicola said: “I’ve been in wardrobe, trying a few outfits on, seeing my size.

“It’s looking good for me; glittery and sparkly.

“[And] I’m very committed to that [wearing trousers] this season. I’ll be in trousers and different types, maybe shorts, and full length.

“I like to keep surprises though,” she said, not wanting to give too much away.

When asked whether she was looking forward to being Strictly-fied every Saturday night, the boxer said: “It’s gonna be very different.

“I’ll be out of my comfort zone but I’m looking forward to it.

“I don’t really wear too much glitter so it’s gonna be different but exciting for me.”

As for why Nicola wanted to take part in the nation’s favourite dance competition, she said she “wanted a new challenge” and “something different to do”.

“I’m always challenging myself all the time. So it was a good step in the right direction.”

“I’m not the best dancer so I wanted to see how I will do,” she added.

And what does she think about her fellow contestants?

“I think it’s a great lineup,” Nicola said.

“I think I’m gonna have some good competition. I’m just looking forward to getting started!”

Nicola will take to the dance floor in under a week’s time alongside Good Morning Britain’s Ranvir Singh and EastEnders Maisie Smith.

Bill Bailey and Caroline Quentin have also signed up alongside BBC DJ Clara Amfo.

Max George is also swapping the stage for the dance floor as well as Jason Bell.

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 starts Saturday 17 October.
