EastEnders has confirmed that Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) has changed baby Kayden’s name while in lockdown.
Kayden was named by Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) earlier this year when, following the death of Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau), Sharon didn’t believe she’d be able to raise her newborn.
With the name having a special meaning to the Taylor clan — given that it’s Keegan’s (Zack Morris) middle name — Karen decided that her grandson would be called Kayden.
Viewers also noted that the inclusion of the ‘den’ in the latter half of the name was a subtle nod to the Watts’ legacy, in that it paid tribute to fallen family members Dennis — aka Denny, Dennis Rickman Sr (Nigel Harman), and Dennis ‘Den’ Watts (Leslie Grantham).
However, The BBC One soap has confirmed that Sharon has changed Kayden’s name to Albie amid lockdown.
The serial drama has been giving viewers a little hint of what they can expect when EastEnders returns on September 7 via social media updates entitled ‘lockdown lowdown’
In Sharon’s edition of the lockdown lowdown, we’re told that ‘After much to-ing and fro-ing, she decided to change her son’s name to Albie.’
What’s more, in a clip from the soap’s return — which aired on The One Show last night (September 3) — Mick and Linda Carter (Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright) discuss Sharon’s decision to change the name of her son.
EastEnders returns Monday September 7 at 8.05pm on BBC One.
