Outlander on Amazon Prime Video gives fans a lot to explore. The long-running time travel adventure series has raised plenty of questions and some are left unanswered. Back in season one, Frank Randall (played by Tobias Menzies) saw a mysterious man wave to him, but who was this cryptic figure?
Who was the mysterious man in season one?
During the first season of the show, fans were taken off guard by the appearance of a strange character.
The man never revealed his identity, nor did the characters who saw him know who he was.
Frank Randall saw the figure watching Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) with there being no reveal on who this was for the remainder of the show.
Fans have taken to Reddit.com to discuss who they think this mystery character could be, with one fan giving his suggestion.
In a post on the Outlander forum, one fan said: “They never said who it was but and I don’t think they ever will but, I think that was Jamie.”
They explained: “Jamie in season four said to Claire “When my body is gone my soul will still be yours” or something like that, but I think that actually is going to happen or already happened.”
They go on to explain that Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) love for Claire is strong enough that it can travel through time to watch over her.
They finish by saying: “That’s also why Frank didn’t feel Jamie brush his sleeve, and the bird on the window still was Jamie probably as well.”
This theory appears to have been backed up by the author of the original book series.
The books were written by Diana Gabaldon, so far there are nine books in the series.
During Outlander’s For Your Consideration panel in LA, Executive Producer Maril Davis said: “It hasn’t been explained and hopefully we get to that point where we can explain it, but Diana [Gabaldon] has said many times that it is Jamie Fraser.”
Jamie’s actor Sam Heughan was also at the panel and confirmed the statement by Davis.
He said that the author “has written that scene, and she showed it to a few of us. It’s to be revealed.”
It seems to confirm that fans are correct about who this mysterious figure is and that it will be revealed later in the series.
Outlander has been confirmed for season’s six and seven, with no word on where the show will go beyond that.
Season seven will be based on the book An Echo in the Bone, the seventh book in the original series.
Season six is set to air later this year, with the seventh season following in 2022.
If the series continues to follow the books closely, the show could continue up until the ninth season, though this is unconfirmed.
Outlander is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
