Off-grid home with its own solar power system and veg garden on sale for £600k

Blame the return to socialising post-lockdown, but when it comes to gazing at property porn, we’ve been drawn to houses that are super isolated.

We lusted over England’s ‘most remote house’ and considered giving up the internet to live in a cottage in Devon.

Now, the object of our affections is an off-grid house nestled in the middle of Dartmoor, again in Devon.

This particular property gives you the away-from-it-all vibe you’re craving, but has all you’ll need to remain self-sufficient, too.

There’s a full solar panel system to give you electricity, plus a generator for backup, a private water supply, a vegetable garden to grow your own food, and a natural spring to drink from.

The house, called Autumn Wood, is basically the dream home if you’ve been fantasising about quitting your job, selling your stuff, and embracing a simpler lifestyle.

And it’s on sale for the bargain price of £600,000.

The home is made of timber sold by Harrods, and is only accessible via a less-than-perfect road.

Godfrey, Short & Squire, who are selling the property, describe Autumn Wood as a ‘unique self-sufficient property’ and highlight its stunning panoramic views of the countryside.

‘Autumn Wood offers a rare opportunity to acquire an off grid property, within grounds of 1/3 of an acre and nestled on the edge of Dartmoor,’ reads the Zoopla description.

‘With direct access to Dartmoor with no near neighbours it truly offers a way of life that many are now seeking.

‘With electric generated by solar or generator and private drainage/water supply (the only mains service is telephone/broadband) this Victorian eco friendly home is pretty unique.

“Of timber construction and reputedly made in a London workshop, then sold by Harrods, the property has a great history, it is located on the edge of a Saxon settlement and within Dartmoor.

‘Therefore the location and property are steeped in history and previously formed part of the Luxmoore Estate.’

While your way of life in the home may be a little humble, the property itself is snazzier.

There are four bedrooms to choose from, plus a home office, a large living room, a dining area, and a kitchen.

We reckon you could make a killing renting it out as a holiday home – imagine all the burnt-out Londoners who’d pay loads just to escape the city.
