Meghan Markle’s childhood boyfriend Joshua Silverstein told Lorraine Kelly on her chat show Tuesday that he thought her decision to open up about her experiences within the royal family was “brave”.
Asked about what he thought of the Duchess of Sussex’s choice to do an interview with American star Oprah Winfrey, Joshua was very positive to his former beau.
“I think she handled it very well, I thought she was honest and transparent.
“And given there’s a history of racism that I’m sure you know already, within the royal family.
“I think the fact Meghan was able to get on TV and bravely talk about that is awesome.”
The guest continued to praise his ex-girlfriend – the pair dated when they were only 13 before going to high school – especially because he claimed when people talk about racism on TV there’s a huge “backlash”.
“The fact Meghan did it I thought was very brave,” Joshua reiterated.
Lorraine offered that on top of that, Meghan’s decision to speak openly about her experiences and claims that someone within the family had asked about Archie’s “skin colour”, could affect “change” in the future.
“It might affect change,” she said. “The royal family say they might remember different things in a different way than she does, but they have said they’ll talk about it.
“Yeah opposing sides were both brought to the table and had a conversation,” Joshua nodded.
The guest then added that once “all the quote unquote darkness in the past” has been worked through, “then we can move forward”.
