Martin Lewis fumes over This Morning caller’s ‘nonsense’ money trouble on show

Martin Lewis was visibly frustrated by the subject of a call on Thursday's show when one This Morning viewer claimed her bank was withholding money from her.

Hoping to receive some of Martin's expert advice, caller Jenny reached out to the show, joining Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in the ITV studio.

Discussing her problem, she said she returned to her old bank to take out her remaining savings, explaining: " I couldn't get it out."

She added: "I'm quite aggrieved about it and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it."

Martin was baffled by her complaint, saying: "I'm afraid it doesn't really compute for me. If you have money in a bank account, it doesn't matter if you put it in in 1892, it's your money and you have a right to get it out."

Jenny then explained she had previously moved from Hertfordshire to Dorset, claiming she'd informed the bank of the move at the time.

She added: "They tried to make out that that was the reason we couldn't get it back."

Martin then flexed his financial expertise, fuming their excuse had been "nonsense" and offering Jenny some pearls of wisdom.

He said: "No, this is all nonsense and irrelevant. If you moved house, yes listen. If they're saying to you, 'hold on we're not sure this money is really yours, and you have to prove its truly you'. Yes, that's something that can happen."

Martin then launched a plan of action, plotting out the best route for Jenny to receive the money that was owed to her.

He ordered: "I would get back in touch with Barclays, tell them that you want to make a formal complaint that they are holding on to your money. This is your money.

"Tell them Martin Lewis said so. This is your money and you're entitled to it back.

"If they do not give it to you back, you will make a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service."

Martin added: "They may as well just get it sorted rather than playing silly devils, which is what it sounds like they're doing at the moment."

Phil was impressed by his advice and then offered the bank the chance to get in touch with ITV, promising to negotiate on Jenny's behalf.

He said: "Maybe the lovely people at Barclays might like to give us a call?"

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
