Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) abandoned Chloe Decker (Lauren German) to return to Hell in the thrilling season four finale last year.

Netflix subscribers are now desperate to see the duo’s romantic odyssey continue, with the first half of season five set to release on August 21.

‘Deckerstar’ has become one of the most popular TV romances of recent years, but the flirtatious pair still haven’t made things official.

Their relationship hits another hurdle in season five, too, as Lucifer’s new residence in the underworld will leave the beautiful detective vulnerable to the schemes of his twin brother, Michael.

Thankfully, a new interview with the cast has confirmed season five will feature some exciting new Deckerstar content as the duo finally face up to Chloe’s declaration of love in season four.

Opening up about Lucifer and Chloe becoming a couple, Tom Ellis admitted Lucifer is going to find it hard to take their relationship to the next level.

Speaking to TVLine, Ellis shed light on where their friendship is at the start of season five, and how the King of Hell might be reluctant to broach new romantic ground with his detective partner.

He explained: “When we find ourselves in season five, he’s in a place where he is acknowledging all these things.”

“But for him, that is terrifying, because what if, like he has done many times in the past, what if he messes all that up?”

Lucifer may be one of the most promiscuous playboys on television right now, but, when it comes to serious relationships, his romantic game leaves a lot to be desired.

Ellis teased how the new season will explore his fears of fully opening up to Chloe during the early stages of their fledgling relationship.

He continued: “Weirdly, as someone who presents as supremely confident, he’s actually his biggest doubter. Especially when it comes to something like this, because this is new territory.”

“All these feelings that he’s been exposed to and is feeling — he doesn’t know what to do with them, because that’s not his safe place.”

This could mean fans may still have to wait a number of episodes before Lucifer makes it back from Hell and strikes up the nerve to ask out his detective love interest.

Lauren German also revealed she never expected the series to turn into such an effective love story when she signed on back in season one.

She admitted: “I didn’t [expect it]. I never projected it feeling this genuine.”

“It just feels like it means so much. As opposed to maybe in Season 2 or something, if we just started dating — then it becomes about that.

“This feels so tender and precious and beautiful because it’s been kept at arm’s length a bit. I love that.”

Lucifer has also been picked up for a sixth and final season, so fans are hopeful the show will bow out with a Biblical romance and give Deckerstar the happy ending they deserve.

Lucifer Season 5 Part 1 will be released August 21 on Netflix.
