Yellowstone season four has been airing on The Paramount Network and one instalment included a special message. A title card appeared for John Prine, dedicating the episode to the star who died. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about who John Prine was and what happened to him.

Was John Prine in Yellowstone?

In the Yellowstone episode titled All I See Is You, fans saw Jimmy Hurdstrom (played by Jefferson White) turn his back on the ranch.

He had only just survived the fall from the horse and his near-miss made him question his life choices.

Meanwhile, the Duttons were in the middle of plotting their revenge on those who ordered the attacks on the family.

The episode ended with a dedication to John Prine – a singer and songwriter who specialised in country music.

Although he did not appear on camera in Yellowstone, his music was played in the second episode of the fourth season.

The musician was born in 1946 and he was considered as popular as renowned artists like Johnny Cash.

The Illinois-born performer learned to play the guitar at the age of 14 and mastered the art over the years.

He fought cancer twice in his life but died in April 2020 due to coronavirus complications.

The singer was 73 years old when he died, and the Yellowstone stars were saddened to hear of his death.

At the end of the second episode, his song Caravan of Floors can be heard playing.

During the scene, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is seen heading back in the direction of his truck.

This was a poignant moment for Costner, who also leads a country band called Modern West.

Prine won many awards for his music, including a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

The official Twitter account for Yellowstone said after the episode: “And we’ll end the episode with John Prine’s Caravan of Fools.”

Fans took to the comments to pay tribute to the star.

Tammy Jo Dawson said: “Such a sad loss #JohnPrine Great show tonight! So many epic moments!! #YellowstoneTV.”

Joel C said: “With Keven being a lover of music singer and guitar player himself with his band wildest it’s a fitting ending to this episode.”

Anita Kollmann added: “My husband and I miss John Prine so much. Thankful for the memories of his concerts and his powerful music and lyrics. Thank you for keeping his memory alive.”

Sharon WeMett commented: “Hearing John Prine at the end of tonight’s episode made me love Yellowstone just a little bit more.”

Prine served alongside the US Army in West Germany before working as a mailman in Chicago in the late 1960s.

His brother David taught him how to play the guitar as a teenager and he began to sing songs at open-mic nights.

He was nervous about performing in front of a crowd at first, but after his first show, he was offered a paid gig.

Yellowstone fans were thrilled to hear his music featured on the popular Western melodrama.

The next episode, titled Winning or Learning, will air on November 21 and a promo has been released.

It shows Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) telling Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) she will be introduced to “the fight of [her] life.”
