Im A Celebrity fans switch off after exit format change

I’m A Celeb South Africa tease Monday’s episode

After the first week of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa ended with Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith being booted out of the show, many fans weren’t happy with the new format.

The all-star celebrities who re-entered the ITV series were whisked away to South Africa last year without the public being involved.

In previous series, the public would be heavily involved in who they wanted to take on the Bushtucker Trials for the first couple of weeks before deciding who they wanted to boot from the show.

However, the latest series has been the celebrities deciding on who they wish to take part in the trials, and next week they will have to decide who they want to leave the camp next.

During Friday night’s episode, a teaser for Monday’s show was aired which saw presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly revealing the camp needed to choose who they wanted to leave.

The camp was shocked at the news, and left former Countdown star Carol Vorderman to exclaim: “Well that’s not fair.”

Carol wasn’t the only one who was left annoyed by the latest twist, as viewers were also left disappointed they weren’t involved in any way.

Taking to their Twitter pages, @mia_isabellex fumed: “NO I HATE THIS WE NEED TO VOTE WERE GONNA LOSE GOOD PEOPLE #ImACeleb.”(sic)

Another user commented: “I’m enjoying #imacelebrity BUT these shows only work because the public gets to vote. They should have just made it work LIVE. #ImACeleb.”

Becky Ives exclaimed: “No this is a joke why not just do summer and winter I’m a celeb so we can vote, I hate that one of my faves will be going, and if it’s Andy I’m switching off #ImACeleb.”(sic)

Ryan Glendenning added: “This is why we need a public vote as now one of the best Campmates is going to go home. #ImaCeleb.”

Claire Simgles said: “Not sure how I’m feeling about this pre-recorded I’m a celeb… I used to love being able to vote.”

@MissMummaJ penned: “BRING BACK LIVE SHOWS AND PUBLIC VOTE. This all-stars series would have been so much better with us having a say!” (sic)

The trial last night saw Gillian once again refuse to do a task which ultimately resulted in her and Shaun’s departure.

Touching on their exit and what it was like to be reunited, Gillian said: “I heard a rumour he might be going in and I was horrified.

“Then when I saw him as I arrived I said ‘Hello Shaun’ and I felt something shifted, even in that moment.

“He was very welcoming – we got on brilliantly. He sang my praises. I was like ‘Who is this guy?’ He was like ‘She’s brains, she’s so intelligent, she’s this, she’s that’ – every compliment you can imagine flying out.

“It was crazy. I thought, ‘Has he had a brain transplant.’ It shows you, you can go full circle with a relationship. It’s a life lesson for everybody.”

Shaun added: “She made such an impact last time I thought if anyone is coming back, she’ll be there. The only difference is I’m 12 years more mature. I was all peaceful and nice with Gillian as soon as she walked in.

“I think she was a little bit ‘woo’, a little bit ‘whey’ as she had all these memories going on. But we got on. You know, Gillian’s Gillian. I mean, last time, I didn’t not like Gillian. I kept telling her that.”

I’m A Celebrity South Africa airs weeknights from 9pm on ITV.
