Following the shock double elimination of Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith in Friday night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity…South Africa, show hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly wasted no time in teasing what challenges lay ahead for the remaining contestants.
In a preview for Saturday’s episode, the Geordie duo revealed a brand new challenge for the stars to take on – which breaks the records for any task set for the stars in the show’s history to date.
Over a video clip of a death-defying challenge high up in the air, a voice over explained: “Welcome to the highest trial ever in the history of I’m a Celebrity. 1,100 meters high.”
A series of images then revealed that the stars will need to collect a number of stars from a series of cranes and platforms suspended over a huge drop.
The preview then cut to Ant and Dec who had another bombshell as Dec explained: “For one of you, this will be your last night in camp – who that is, is up to you.”
Shocked at the fact their fate was in their own hands, the stars couldn’t hide their surprise with Carol Vorderman audibly exclaiming: “No, that’s horrible!”
While no further details were given, the stars all looked far from impressed by the latest development, with several even placing their heads in their hands as they tried to come to terms with what was due to take place.
The latest challenge comes just hours after Shaun and Gillian were eliminated from the show after coming last in a challenge to collect stars and secure much-needed meals for the camp.
The exit came as a huge shock to both campmates and viewers, who thought the iconic duo would be in it for the long haul.
Ant and Dec announced that the TV nutritionist Gillian, 63, and former Happy Mondays singer Shaun, 60, had lost the first survival trial of the series after a gruelling challenge.
Taking on pairs Georgia "Toff" Toffolo and Phil Tuffnell, and Andy Whyment and Jordan Banjo, despite their best efforts, sadly Gillian and Shaun were unable to secure a place in the camp going forwards.
