Hollyoaks' Kieron Richardson quits Twitter after being trolled for shock Islam radicalisation storyline

HOLLYOAKS star Kieron Richardson has quit Twitter after being trolled over his radicalisation storyline.

The actor's character Ste Hay has been brainwashed to hate muslims by Jonny Baxter (Ray Quinn) in shock scenes.

In recent episodes of the Channel 4 soap, the pair have even become violent.

But Kieron admitted the backlash he received online caused him to try and "water down" the role for fear of offending.

Now he's decided to ditch Twitter completely so he can do the harrowing plot justice.

He told Daily Star Online: "It is so hard to watch and it is very controversial but it has to be like that as that is real life.

"I deleted my Twitter because people were hating on me and then I was trying to water down my performance as I didn't want to offend people, but that is the wrong way to do it.

"I just got rid of it and now I go in every day and I do it to the best of my ability."

Kieron, 33, revealed some vile trolls were even threatening his young twins as they struggled to separate the role from his personal life.

The shocking scenes have seen Ste pulled further into the far-right extremist ways of Jonny – who has played on Ste's grudge against the Maaliks.
