Channel 4 show Escape to the Chateau originally followed couple Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they bought an impressive property in northwest France. They purchased the Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne and began the long process of renovating it while trying to juggle work and their family life. But can you stay at the once dilapidated 19th century chateau.

Can you stay at Escape to the Chateau castle?

The series first aired in 201 and has become a huge hit with audiences who followed Angel and Dick as they worked to make the chateau habitable.

When they first started on the gorgeous 45-room property, they were required to install electricity, heating and running water.

For the past 40 years, the chateau hadn’t been lived in and was in desperate need of a revamp.

The pair had set a deadline: their wedding which would be held at the chateau with 200 guests in attendance.

Subsequent series of Escape to the Chateau have seen the duo launching their events planning business at their home as well as continuing to renovate the house.

The show has also seen their family grow and important personal milestones for the couple and their children.

While the first four series of Escape to the Chateau were very short with only a trio of instalments, the show gradually became longer in its fifth season.

Season five consisted of a total of seven episodes are the chateau opened its doors for a glamping event while battling with the unpredictable weather.

The last series aired in 2020 but it’s not clear when the new series of Escape to the Chateau will be airing on Channel 4.

However, a message on the chateau’s official website suggests for the moment weddings and events are not taking place at the venue due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The note says the couple made the decision in July 2020 to close the chateau which has led to some delays with events postponed until 2021.

The site’s message ends by reassuring those who are already in the chateau’s system will be kept updated.

Usually, people can stay at the chateau but it is usually used for events and weddings with things such as geo domes with prices starting from £350 while working garden days to visit the couple and their home begin at £75.

As the chateau is also home to the family, it is closed to the public generally and you can only go for events.

The pair wrote on the Chateau’s website: “We feel very blessed that The Chateau is now teeming with life and activity, not only courtesy of our children Arthur and Dorothy, who simply love exploring their very own ‘castle’, but with guests who have been on the journey with us: those who have been inspired to ‘have a go’, and those who have simply enjoyed the fantasy from the safety of their armchairs!

“We really have been overwhelmed by lovely e-mails and enquiries about visits and stays at The Chateau.

“We continue to offer elegant vintage weddings and special events and we promise to keep updating our offerings with fresh and innovative ideas.”

The couple and chateau are on social media with a newsletter and mailing list also available for those looking to book a stay or attend an event.

Along with the TV series Escape to the Chateau, the couple also launched a spin-off in 2018 called Chateau DIY which sees other couples renovating their own castles.

Channel 4 gave Chateau DIY a 60-episode order for 2021 and 2022.
