EastEnders: Sharon sees her brother Zack
One original EastEnders stalwart though is Sharon Watts (played by Letitia Dean) who remains on the BBC soap to this day after making a few departures and comebacks to Walford throughout the years. While Sharon is recognisable with fans of all ages, one of the character’s ex-boyfriends, Duncan Boyd, may not be because he hasn’t appeared in EastEnders in 34 years. The soap has announced the character will be returning though, with original actor David Gillespie reprising his role. Preview pictures show a very different Duncan to the one who stepped away for a new life more than three decades ago though, and long-term viewers are bound to be stunned to see him.
Duncan was last seen in Walford in July 1989, but will make a brief comeback this month.
A curate of the local church, Duncan first appeared on the soap in 1987.
He was romantically involved with Sharon at one point, and the pair soon became engaged.
However, Sharon called off the wedding when Duncan was offered a new job in Wiltshire.
In scenes set to air soon, an unrecognisable Duncan will turn up in Walford once again.
It turns out he will unknowingly be officiating the Christening of Sharon’s son, Albie Watts.
Without realising Albie’s identity, Duncan will be stunned to turn up and find out Sharon is the child’s mother.
The character looks a world away from the man who left Albert Square all those years ago.
Having last appeared with a mop of dark hair and in typical 1980s attire, it’s almost impossible to tell it’s Duncan making a comeback.
Teaser pictures show the iconic character sporting a leather jacket, but this time without his locks.
While his stint back on the Square is set to be short-lived, it seems he will make an impact, particularly on old flame Sharon.
Duncan might be surprised to see Sharon’s current partner, Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), who is in his 20s.

Viewers will probably hope for a long-awaited catch-up between the pair, and to find out more about Duncan’s life outside of Walford.
On the return, executive producer Chris Clenshaw stated: “It’s wonderful to welcome David back to the role of Duncan Boyd.
“Although we haven’t seen Duncan for over three decades, his character shares a romantic history with one of the show’s iconic matriarchs, Sharon.
“We’re delighted to have him back for a short while as he unknowingly stirs up drama between the happy couple.”
EastEnders continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
