The Masked Singer returns to ITV on Saturday night with celebrities once again performing in colourful costumes that hide their identities. It is the job of judges Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora to guess which famous faces are behind the masks. However, Davina has confessed deciphering the clues is not an easy task. The star revealed that while filming the series, one costume had her so confused she wasn’t sure how many people were inside.
The Masked Singer host Joel Dommett and judge Davina spoke about the show’s iconic costumes in a recent interview with Express.co.uk and other press.
Describing the creative outfits as “insane”, Davina noted their impressive size and detail.
“It’s just wild,” Joel said in agreement.
Reflecting on some of her favourite ensembles from the series, Davina confessed there was one costume that left her puzzled.
She explained: “There’s a costume where I was confused for at least maybe five weeks as to whether they were a man or a woman.
“I mean, every time they sang I would be like ‘Is that a man or a woman?’ That’s how good they were.
“Also, for quite a while on the first time I saw them, I was like ‘Is there one or two people in that costume?’” Davina said.
Clearly aware of the outfit his co-star was referring to, Joel remarked: “It’s one of the biggest.
“It’s the biggest costume I think we’ve ever had in terms of technicality.
“Apparently it took like three people to get the costume off. It’s so huge,” the comedian revealed.
“I don’t know how they walked in and out. They had this amazing walk which was like a robot and I thought ‘Oh this is part of the character’.
“But, now I’m thinking they just literally couldn’t walk,” she laughed.
“No, they just couldn’t walk. It was so big,” Joel added.
Davina highlighted how challenging it is to correctly guess the secret identities of each contestant.
“It’s wild. They disguise everything,” The Masked Singer judge exclaimed.
“They disguise the way they speak, they disguise the way they walk, the way they sing,” she added.
The costume Davina and Joel were referring to may have been Robobunny, who debuted on the show last weekend.
The quirky character left the judges stumped after showing off their impressive vocal range.
However, viewers at home swiftly took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with many believing there were two celebrities inside the costume.
“It’s a #maskedsinger first. Two people in one costume,” @baldytel wrote.
“Is Robobunny two people? #MaskedSinger,” @LunaLocoJewels questioned.
“WHY DOES THE ROBOBUNNY SOUND LIKE IT’S TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE? #TheMaskedSingerUK,” YouOkHunz posted.
The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
