George (played by Tony Maudsley) has been enjoying his romance with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) recently on Coronation Street after months of the pair struggling to admit their feelings for one another. In the past, Eileen has struggled with her relationships and finally thought the undertaker could be the one for her. However, their budding relationship could soon come to an end this Christmas as George betrays Eileen’s trust when turning to long-standing enemy Gail Platt (Helen Worth).

In upcoming scenes, George asks Gail for advice on what he could get Eileen for a Christmas present.

On Christmas day, George and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) lead a blindfolded Eileen to the undertakers, where George reveals his surprise gift.

However, the reaction George was looking for from Eileen is different to the one she gives.

The following day, Eileen discovers that it was, in fact, Gail who put George up to the Christmas present idea and is fuming at the revelation.

Angry at Gail for involving herself in her relationship, Eileen lays into her and begins to tell her she is deranged for thinking it would be a good idea.

Gail is left feeling embarrassed and puzzled at Eileen’s ingratitude, with Eileen clearly furious at George.

She ends things with him, but Todd soon begs her to give George another chance, without letting on her has another idea up his sleeve.

When George presents her with a new winter coat and reveals he’s booked a table at the bistro, will he be forgiven?

Will Eileen be able to forgive George for turning to Gail for help?

ITV viewers will remember Gail and Eileen’s infamous street brawl back in 2004, and ever since the two rivalling women have had a series of run-ins.

The feisty matriarchs are at each other’s throats again this festive season.

Actor Tony Maudsley has previously opened up about George and Eileen’s relationship and revealed that viewers are “so protective over Eileen”.

“It has taken a while, he has been eased into the show very gradually, and he was flagged as a new love interest for Eileen.

“But if he had got with her too quickly, people wouldn’t have liked it, it would have jarred as the viewers are so protective over Eileen.

“Sue has been on the show 21 years, and but with all the problems Eileen has had with men, I think the viewers are on George’s side.

“He makes her smile, he is a sensitive softy. They want Eileen to be happy, and in George, she might finally have found that if she would only let her guard down!”

Meanwhile, Christmas at the Platts and Barlow’s may not be as merry as they hoped as the two families join together for festive celebrations.

In the lead up to Christmas, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) reveals her plans for a joint Christmas with the Barlow’s, leaving David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) appalled at the thought of sharing the day with the Barlows.

The day after, Sarah rounds up the Platts and Barlow’s and suggests they sort out their differences as she wants a joint family Christmas.

But as the two families trade insults, Sarah wonders what she’s let herself in for as her idea of a magical Christmas turns into something of a nightmare.

Coronation Street airs weekdays from 7:30pm on ITV.
