AFTER teaming up with BTS for their last single My Universe, Coldplay are working with another streaming superpower to boost their success among younger fans.
I can reveal the band have collaborated with US beauty Selena Gomez on stunning pop ballad Let Somebody Go.
It is set to be released any day now ahead of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Will Champion and Jonny Buckland's ninth studio album Music Of The Spheres, which comes out on October 15.
A source said: “Chris has always been a huge fan of Selena and it’s a dream come true that she’s finally singing on a Coldplay record.
He wrote a beautiful ballad for her which they recorded together in April.
“They already have plans for a special live performance around the launch of the band’s album.
"She is massively popular with young people so the group hope that collaborations like this will help keep the next generation fans of the group.”
The single follows their collaboration with BTS in South Korea, which debuted at No3 in the singles chart on Friday.
Talking about the link-up, frontman Chris said: “I saw it in my head for so many months, and now here we are.
“It’s been very difficult to get to Korea. We’ve been very lucky with people allowing us to come in just to record.”
Meanwhile, Selena has been working on her fourth solo album.
In March she dropped her Spanish language EP Revelacion — admitting at the time that she had considered quitting music due to people not taking her seriously.
Having the prestige of Coldplay behind her should help her return to form.
JOKER RICKY'S CHOKER
RICKY GERVAIS is an acting star in his own right but it turns out film director JJ Abrams was not impressed with his on-set antics.
The comedian said the Star Wars director was once such a big fan of his, he asked him to take a guest-starring role in an episode of US thriller Alias.
But Ricky said his own behaviour on set left him treated like a “moron”.
He explained: “I had to walk down the corridor and do the line.
"I wasn’t listening so I thought, I will do it my way. I wasn’t in the perfect shot.
“I could hear the cameraman just saying, ‘F***, f***’.
“In the end they put sandbags down, so I’d stop when I hit one.”
Ricky also admitted his co-star Victor Garber was not his biggest fan after he kept ruining a scene.
He added: “He has to strangle me half to death and then bring me back to life.
Jennifer Garner walks in and Victor says, ‘Get the defibrillator’ and every time he said it I laughed. I thought it was ridiculous.
“After the tenth take he said, ‘Don’t laugh or I will actually kill you.’ ”
RONAN GETS AN ED START
SIX years after Ed Sheeran played at the wedding of Ronan Keating and model wife Storm, the former Boyzone singer has enlisted his help once more.
Next month Ronan will release his 12th studio record, and he told me Castle On The Hill crooner Ed lent a hand while he was putting it together.
The Irish singer said: “I have got an album in November and a tour in January, February and March. It’s a concept record.
He added: “Indirectly Ed has done something on the new album but I can’t tell you any more at this stage.
“He played guitar on the last one on a couple of songs.”
Ed took to the stage to perform solo at Ronan and Storm’s wedding bash in 2015 , before joining Ronan and his bandmates to perform.
And he has been so busy writing this past year during lockdown, I would not be surprised if he hadn’t penned one or two new tracks for his friend.
LIVE IT LARGE
THERE was once a time when stars got too big for their boots – now it seems their clothes are outgrowing them.
Just look at model Naomi Campbell and Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton on the runway of last week’s Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week.
She looked like she was channelling Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, who had a similar penchant for giant suits back in the day.
And Lewis’s striking outfit had the air of a schoolboy playing dress-up with his big brother’s wardrobe.
The pair were watched on the catwalk by Cardi B, who later explored the French capital in a quirky green all-in-one complete with frilly bonnet.
Other stars at Fashion Week included Georgia May Jagger and Paris Jackson – the model daughters of rocker Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson – who sat on the front row of the Vivienne Westwood show, wearing similar plunging frocks.
At least they know their dress size.
Harry’s secret smile
HARRY STYLES has revealed the true meaning behind his hit single Watermelon Sugar, and it isn’t as sweet and innocent as many may have thought.
Speaking about it on stage in Nashville, he said: “The song is about – it doesn’t really matter what it’s about.
"It’s about, um, the sweetness of life! It’s also about the female orgasm . . . so that settles that.” Harry, right, kicked off his US tour a month ago but still has a way to go.
His jaunt won’t end for another six weeks, after which it is hoped he will announce rescheduled UK dates for next year.
JADE: FAME IS STRUGGLE
AFTER a decade in the game, you would think Jade Thirlwall had things down when it comes to dealing with celebrity.
But the Little Mix star says the pressures on young pop stars are so intense that she still finds it tough after ten years, particularly when she is grabbed by eager fans.
She said: “I think when you are famous some people don’t see you as a real human any more, so they think it’s acceptable to do things like grab your arm.
"They feel like they own a part of you, or that they are entitled to be in your personal space because you’ve somehow asked for it.
“I still get a bit of anxiety when I’m leaving a venue and there’s a bunch of people outside – it’s never gonna feel normal.”
Jade’s bandmate Jesy Nelson quit the group in December, blaming the “toll” it was taking on her mental health. The star has now gone solo and there’s seemingly no love lost.
As my Biz on Sunday colleagues revealed, Jesy’s old bandmates have taken a thinly veiled swipe at her in their new single.
But for Jade the positives outweigh the negatives and she insists she and bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards are still keen to keep going.
Speaking on radio in Dublin, she explained: “We’ve managed to evolve over the years and adapt to the industry changes.
“That’s been one of our strong points – still being Little Mix and still having fun and that empowering sound.”
Elt-on way to take top spot from Ed
ELTON John and Dua Lipa are threatening to end Ed Sheeran’s all-conquering 14-week reign at No 1 in the singles chart.
The pair’s collaboration Cold Heart is currently at No 2 and just 2,500 sales behind Ed’s tune Shivers, which has spent the past three weeks at the top. Before that, his track Bad Habits held the top spot.
Elsewhere in the mid-week chart update, Glass Animals' song Heat Waves has risen to No 5 while Billie Eilish’s track Happier Than Ever has leapt to No 9.
It also looks like British dance star Becky Hill will reach new heights with her single My Heart Goes (La Di Da) with TOPIC, which is up three places to No 14.
