Batwoman season 2 flooded with fan complaints that Kate Kane has been 'thrown away' after Ruby Rose's exit

BATWOMAN season 2 has been bombarded with a series of fan complaints that character Kate Kane has been 'thrown away' after Ruby Rose's exit.

The actress has quit CW series after the first season, but as a result her character Kate Kane was removed and viewers are not happy.

The show's creator Caroline Dries sent out a tweet earlier today informing fans that production for season two is set to get underway.

She wrote: "Tomorrow we start filming season two of #Batwoman. I'm so proud to be part of such a talented group of people. Break a leg!!!

One fan messaged: "it's exciting but i'm still so upset about you threw away kate kane just bc an actress left."

Another follower replied: "I’m happy for you & the cast. But as a fan, after investing so much of my time in Kate’s character, her relationships and storylines, S2 just doesn’t seem worth it, now that I know everything built up in S1 means absolutely nothing with Kate gone. You should have just recast her."

This furious fan wrote: "Call it whatever you want. Just don’t tell me it’s Batwoman. It’s not Kate Kane, it’s not Batwoman," while another simply posted: "not interested."

This user penned: "I'd be excited about that but since you've ruined it for the real fans of Batwoman I'll say thanks for 1 great season #KateKaneIsBatwoman."

Caroline explained why they chose to introduce a completely new character rather than find a new actress to play Ruby Rose's Kate Kane.

"Upon further reflection, and [executive producer] Greg [Berlanti] helped me make this call – and he's way smarter than me about this sort of stuff – he's like, 'You know, I think we should just reboot the character in terms of reboot Batwoman as a different character.'"

She added: "Just to also respect everything that Ruby put into the Kate Kane character."

Javicia Leslie has been cast for season two and will play brand new character Ryan Wilder, who is a skilled fighter who has previously been linked to drugs.

The show runner has explained why Ruby Rose's replacement doesn't really work with the season 2 shake-up – at least not straight away.

She explained: "At first, she doesn't fit, she doesn't fit literally. She makes it fit her.

"In making it fit her, she makes the Bat accessible to this whole other world of people who normally might not have a hero to look up to. So, she puts her stamp on the legacy.

"Ryan Wilder is a character that Batwoman needs to protect. It just provided a new rich storytelling device for us."
