American Idol: Nutsa Buzaladze wows the judges
On Monday, American Idol returned to ABC as the judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie narrowed down the competition’s remaining hopefuls as the live finale edges closer. However, viewers were less than impressed with Katy as she received her first-ever boo from the audience.
As the competition gets closer to the unveiling of the season 20 winner, the hopefuls performed at Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii.
With the return of Hollywood Week, singer Noah Cyprus was on hand to help the contestants build confidence, stage presence and songwriting skills.
Nutsa Buzaladze was one of the 11 singers to take to the stage in hopes of impressing judges and making it to the next stage of the competition.
The 26-year-old, performed her electric rendition of Paris (Ooh La La) by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.
Nutsa revealed that the song meant a lot to her because she has been playing it since she was 13.
Although she wowed the audience, Nutsa received constructive criticism from Katy who wanted her to tone down her performance.
The judge stated: “Every time you take the stage, it’s like you glitter-bomb the stage.
“Listen, I think that one thing that I personally would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that’s going to be hard.”
However, many fans believed Katy’s feedback was uncalled for as the studio audience booed the judge.
After hearing their response, the Roar singer remarked: “Okay, first time in six seasons, woo hoo!”
Many viewers were also surprised at her criticism and took to social media to rage at the judge.
This included @mmtexas who tweeted: “I think Katy was really wanting to say we don’t want to see Nutsa again.”

@itsjustustyles hit back: “Katy Perry is so blatantly jealous of Nutsa it’s embarrassing at this point.”
A third viewer @morganlr102 added: “Katy said that was the first time she got booed as if the internet hasn’t been hating on her all season.”
As @seasonalOREO stated: “No glitter next time? I feel like that’s rich coming from Katy.”
Despite the backlash, there were some viewers who agreed with Katy and defended the judge on social media.
Taking to Twitter @sean637 wrote: “I agree with Katy. Why does she need to dress like this every week?”
While @seasonalOREO noted: “The difference between Lionel and Katy’s reactions to Nutsa’s performance are so funny.”
Many believed Katy’s harsh feedback stemmed from duet week when the two previously butted heads.
After some brief drama with fellow contestant Carina Deangelo, Nutsa apologised to Katy for her behaviour.
American Idol continues Monday on ABC in the USA.
