Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun returned today, transporting viewers straight to sunny Bulgaria. Guest Sarah fell in love with the country 30 years ago and was looking to find the holiday home of her dreams in a town named Tryavna. But host Jonnie Irwin quickly realised he’d got the tone completely wrong in relation to what Sarah wanted, with the guest scolding the host for the property looking like “a box” and lacking character.
At the start of today’s programme, Sarah was introduced alongside her close friend Suzy – with £40,000 in tow to buy a holiday home.
Host Jonnie told her: “I want to show you five different properties in five different settings, are you ready to be open-minded?”
He took the pair straight to a property in the centre of her desired location but they were visibly unimpressed with the first offering.
Sarah criticised the host, saying: “It’s a good size, there’s just no sort of quirk factor,” with her friend remarking: “It’s just a box! It’s just not Sarah…”
After conceding defeat with his first choice, Jonnie admitted he “failed miserably” in the town centre and opted to show the pair properties more further afield.
