Channel 4 viewers saw A Place in the Sun’s Ben Hillman return to their screens on Tuesday afternoon, showing around newlyweds Maxine and Cormack to find their future forever home. The pair were looking for a property that was close to where they got married and was big enough for their four boys to come and stay. However, Ben came up against shoe-obsessed Maxine, who was more focused on whether she would have enough room for her shoes rather than looking at the qualities of the house.
Introducing the show, Ben said: “Today’s house hunters are Maxine and Cormack from the Scottish borders.
“Having recently married in this beautiful part of France, they’re now ready to follow their dream and buy a holiday home around the picturesque market town of Riberac.”
Speaking to the couple, Ben said: “Maxine and Cormack welcome back to the Dordogne, there is cause for celebration here you got married here two weeks ago?
“Does it not feel a little bit surreal to be such a short time after getting married searching for a property in France with me?” Ben exclaimed.
Maxine agreed: “I know,” with Ben quickly joking, “Talk about the gooseberry!”
“Was it just the most amazing day?” Ben asked, to which Maxine replied: “Oh it really was, lots of family and friends, it was magical, it was fantastic.”
Maxine and Cormack told Ben that it had been their dream to move to France since they had been together and wanted somewhere to accommodate their four boys and Maxine’s enormous shoe collection.
Their budget for the property was between £105,000 and £107,000, giving Ben quite the challenge, but he was ready to take it on.
The first property Ben showed the couple was just a 20-minute drive from where they got married and was very close to the town of Riberac.
Upon arrival at the property, both Maxine and Cormack were stunned at what they saw, with them both exclaiming: “Wow!”
Ben explained: “It has two bedrooms, and it has the opportunity to add a third bedroom, it needs a little updating but nothing too challenging.
“It has outdoor space, it has a plunge pool! It’s on the market for just over £116,000, but I don’t want you to worry because I have been led to believe the owner will accept an offer on your budget.”

Ben took them to the master bedroom, which included an en-suite and had an amazing view of the fields looking down onto the town.
Maxine then interjected: “One wee thing, where would I put my shoes?”
Seemingly surprised at Maxine’s priorities, Ben snapped: “Excuse me but have you not noticed the wardrobe here!”
He continued: “Which I quite like because it’s an alcove, so you can just pull the curtain across, I reckon you can get more than 30 pairs in there.”
“You haven’t seen the whole place yet, have you? There’s plenty of places to squirrel lots of shoes in here and there.”
Ben showed the couple around five houses where Maxine was ambitious to find a property that could hold all her shoes.
The second property was a strong contender throughout the show until the final property Ben showed, which was perfectly placed and had everything they asked for.
The property was on the market for £125,000, which was over their budget, but they were told the agent would consider a lower offer.
They put in an offer of £105,000, which was accepted, meaning Ben achieved his goal of finding the newly married couple their perfect home with enough shoe space for Maxine.
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
