Scarlette Douglas was tasked with finding the dream holiday home of Catherine and Martin in the Italian region of Lazio on Thursday’s A Place in the Sun. The Channel 4 presenter had a tough job on her hands but was able to find the couple a property that appeared to tick all of their boxes. However, the guests were left disheartened when they put forward an offer to buy the villa.
Explaining why they love Italy, Catherine said: “It’s the beauty of the place, it’s the people, it’s just everything. We really feel at home here.”
Sharing what they were looking for, Catherine said: “Ideally it’s got to be two bedrooms minimum.
“We would like three but we understand that might not be possible.
“Outside space as in a terrace so we can have those family meals.”

“Two bathrooms,” Martin continued. “I like to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.”
“Location is number one on our list,” Catherine added. “I’ve suffered with multiple sclerosis for 17 years now and my mobility is impaired.
“It’s important that I can get very easily to a beach or to amenities or to shops without having to drive.”
The couple had a budget of £275,000 but revealed they’d be willing to spend more on the perfect property.
After the couple had seen all of the options, Catherine and Martin opted to put an offer in on a stunning seafront villa.
However, the final property was over budget and on the market for £352,000.
“We did say we would be willing to push the budget for an exceptional property and we’ve made a decision Scarlette – we’d like to put a bid in for property number five,” Martin said.
He explained they wanted to put in the first offer of £320,000 and the host commented: “I understand, it’s best to start low.”

Scarlette said: “Are you as nervous as I am?” Catherine replied: “Yes very.”
When the couple’s offer was rejected, Martin said: “Rather than get in a long bidding war our next offer will be our final offer – £330,000 but including all furnishings.”
After speaking to the owner’s agent, the host said: “Unfortunately she’s looking for £342,000 including everything.”
“That makes our decision quite easy unfortunately we’re not going to be able to meet that price,” Martin replied.

“Okay, Scarlette we’ve found the property we want our final offer is £335,000 but we fly back to England in a couple of hours and that offer is on the table until then.”
Making the couple’s ultimatum clear, Scarlette told the agent: “When they leave today the offer leaves with them.”
“I don’t think she’ll accept it,” Martin said and Catherine disagreed: “I think she will.”
“I think she’ll be silly not to,” Scarlette commented and Martin quipped: “I think she’ll be crazy not to.”
Yet again the owner rejected their offer but Scarlette confirmed to viewers that later that day the couple did have their offer accepted but the sale has since fallen through.
A Place in the Sun airs on weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
