Maurizio Sarri will beat Man Utd to Kalidou Koulibaly transfer if he becomes Juventus boss

MAURIZIO SARRI may soon reunite with his former star Kalidou Koulibaly if he becomes Juventus manager, according to reports.

The Serie A champs are looking for a new centre-back this summer, with the Napoli star featuring high on their wish-list.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus are hoping that Sarri's relationship with Koulibaly, 27, will increase their chances of signing the Senegalese defender.

The pair had worked together at Napoli before the Italian coach took over at Chelsea last summer.

Following successful talks with the Blues, Juve are planning to confirm Sarri, 60, as their new boss this week.

But they are facing a gruelling task in convincing their Serie A rivals to sanction a deal for Koulibaly.

Any transaction needs to be approved by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis – a tough negotiator, aware of historical tensions between the two bitter rivals.

Juventus and Napoli have not struck a single deal since Gonzalo Higuain's £80m move to Turin in 2016.

But the Old Lady didn't need De Laurentiis' blessing back then thanks to a release clause in the Argentine's contract.

Juve are looking for a new centre-back as club legend Andrea Barzagli, 38, has left Turin while Giorgio Chiellini is turning 35 in August.

And as top choice Matthijs de Ligt seems to be on the verge of signing for Barcelona, Koulibaly has emerged as an alternative plan.

But Napoli are holding out for no less than £89m for their star.

The centre-back has been a long-term target for Manchester United.

However, Real Madrid have joined in the race for the defender in a blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer plans.
