Leeds next manager – Bookies reveal the SIX most likely candidates to replace Marcelo Bielsa, Frank Lampard favourite

FRANK LAMPARD is favourite to replace Marcelo Bielsa as Leeds manager.

That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who've priced the Chelsea legend at 5/2 to take the reins at Elland Road.

Questions over Bielsa's future in Yorkshire have ramped up in recent weeks.

The Argentine, 66, is enduring his worst spell since taking over as Leeds manager in 2018.

Leeds are 15th in the Premier League table and on the fringes of a relegation fight having won once in seven matches.

Things went from bad to worse in Manchester on Tuesday as Bielsa's injury-plagued squad were thumped 7-0 at the Etihad.

After the rout, Bielsa said Leeds had 'never played so badly' during his tenure.

He told reporters: "We have never played so badly in these four years. There is nothing positive to take away from our performance. I can't find anything that can be of value.

"What I proposed was not good enough. The ideas, solutions, what I proposed and organised – none of it worked."

Bielsa will undoubtedly have enough credit with the owners having guided Leeds to promotion and secured a ninth-placed top-flight finish.

But some supporters are looking for a change and bookmakers have installed Lampard as the frontrunner.

The 43-year-old has been a free agent since being axed by Chelsea in January and has seen several top jobs pass him by.

Marseille boss Jorge Sampaoli is second in the betting market at 6/1, while Athletic Bilbao's Marcelino is available at 8/1.

Birmingham City chief Lee Bowyer, who made 265 appearances for Leeds, is also priced at 8/1, with Jonathan Woodgate a fraction behind at 9s.

Mick McCarthy is the rank outsider at 40/1.
