Balotelli urges fans to 'not compare Messi to Ronaldo any more' after Barcelona star's Liverpool masterclass

MARSEILLE star Mario Balotelli has told fans to stop comparing Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi following the Barcelona star's double against Liverpool.

The Argentinian genius inspired the Blaugrana to a 3-0 victory against the Reds to put Barca on the brink of the Champions League final.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the 26th minute, before Messi took centre stage in the closing stages of the match.

The 31-year-old tapped home from close range after reacting quickest to Suarez's effort that cannoned off the crossbar.

He then brought up 600 goals for Barcelona in exquisite fashion after he dispatched a free-kick into the top left corner from almost 35 yards out.

His strike sent Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand into meltdown as they watched on from the stands.

And Balotelli was left equally mesmerised by his goal against his former employers as he issued a statement to his 8.7 million Instagram followers.

The 28-year-old said: "Please, for the sake of football, don't ever compare Messi to the #7 of Juventus.”

One supported replied to his post by tweeting: "Why even compare . It’s a joy to watch both of them in this era . Enjoy while it lasts."

Please, for the sake of football, don't ever compare Messi to the #7 of Juventus.

While another said: "Guys I think Ronaldo is an amazing player, but to even try and put him on the level of Lionel Messi just proves you know nothing about the sport. It’s embarrassing.

One commented: "What does he know about football, this is the same guy who set fireworks to his house."

Speaking after the win at the Nou Camp, Messi said: "We know that it isn't over, we will go to a very difficult stadium to play at, the fans press a lot, but we are happy with our fantastic display.

"We played their game a little, they had a lot of rhythm, physicality, playing on the counter. We went into that and we're not as used to not having the ball. So we were a bit asphyxiated.

"Above all it was (good) not to concede goals. In the first half we were better, after that they pressed us, but without creating huge chances, but they didn't let us out.

"We maintained our clean sheet and scored two goals more."

Viewers were left convinced that Messi punched Fabinho in the head prior to making it 3-0 in front of his adoring fans in Catalonia.

While the five-time Ballon d'Or winner appeared to move the ball five yards closer to the goal before bending his effort beyond the outstretched arms of Alisson.
