Arsenal vs Man City LIVE score: Bukayo Saka fires Gunners into lead as City miss two great chances – stream, TV channel

BUKAYO SAKA has given Arsenal a well-deserved lead in a pulsating clash with Manchester City.

Martin Odegaard was denied an early penalty as City missed two great chances before Kieran Tierney's ball put Saka through for the goal.

Fourth official Kevin Friend had to be brought in as assistant referee after Constantine Hatzidakis had to drop out at the last minute.

City have Joao Cancelo in the starting line-up just days after going through the hellish ordeal of being attacked inside his home by burglars.

Phil Foden is also out for City and does not even make the bench.

Takehiro Tomiyasu starts for Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta is at the Emirates Stadium after testing positive for Covid.

The Arsenal boss has yet to see his side even score a goal against his ex employer in the league.

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    53. Bernardo Silva goes down under Granit Xhaka's challenge in the box, and wants a penalty!

Stuart Atwell immediately tells the Spaniard to get up, and a couple of Arsenal players go over to Bernardo to accuse him of diving.

The VAR official will take another look though…

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    51. From the resulting corner, the ball drops nicely for Martinelli, only for the Brazilian to completely miskick his shot.

To be fair, I'd be unable to kick a ball if I'd just been launched into orbit.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    49. Oooof! Rodri slides in to deny Gabriel Martinelli a clear strike at goal from 20 yards, and sends the Brazilian flying through the air.

The incensed Arsenal players surround Stuart Atwell while the crowd bay for a red card, but the referee is adamant in pointing for a corner.

It's probably the right decision, but the phrase 'hard but fair' barely does justice to the challenge.

    Kick-off – Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    46. The second half is underway! There are no changes to report, and more of the same is exactly what Arsenal, Mikel Arteta and Albert Stuivenberg will be hoping for.

If City fail to up their game in the next 45 minutes, the stakes for tomorrow's meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool will become even greater.

    First half facts and figures

Manchester City have clocked up 67% possession and 304 passes in the first half, but are yet to register a shot on target.

Meanwhile, four of Arsenal's 12 tackles were made by the influential Thomas Partey.

    Half-time –Arsenal 1-0 Man City

Stuart Atwell calls time on a blistering, brilliant first half from an Arsenal perspective.

The Gunners lead at the break, courtesy of Bukayo Saka's effort, and it's the least they deserve for a performance full of desire and confidence.

City, on the other hand, have been lethargic by their high standards, and Pep Guardiola will surely have plenty to say in the dressing room.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    45. City force a corner at the end of the first half.

The most animated that Ramsdale has been in the Arsenal goal was when celebrating Saka's strike, but he does well here to rise above a packed penalty box to claim the cross.

  • Sam Dymond

Arsenal 1-0 Man City – Martinelli chance!

    43. A brilliant run from Martinelli! Can he cap it with a goal? No, just wide!

The Brazilian has the beating of Cancelo again on the far side, and skips his wayinto the box with a combination of pace and skill. All that's missing is the finish with the final flick over Ederson dropping wide of the far post.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    41. A heavy albeit fair challenge from Rodri leaves Saka in a heap.

The goalscorer looks in some discomfort, but it's nothing a pat on the stomach from his teammates can't fix.

Saka is now up and ready to go again.

  • Sam Dymond

Arsenal 1-0 Man City – Martinelli chance!

    39. Almost a second!

Lacazette is the provider again, slipping a pass in behind for Martinelli on the left. The Brazilian works his way in from the right, only to steer a rising shot wide of the far post.

It must be a rare feeling for him, but Pep Guardiola will be hoping the half-time whistle comes quickly.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    37. It has to be said, this has been a really impressive performance from Arsenal, and a far cry from the one in the reverse fixture when they were thumped 5-0.

Mikel Arteta deserves a lot of credit for the manner in which he has turned performances around. It's almost as if managers do better with time and support.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    35. How very un-Kevin De Bruyne-like.

The Belgian weighs up a cross from the left, but gets it all wrong in terms of height, power and accuracy. It trickles into the hands of Aaron Ramsdale.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    33. How will City react to falling behind?

It's been almost a month since they last conceded a goal, and only the second time in the last 23 games that they have let one in during the first half.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 1-0 Man City

    31. Bukayo Saka's rich vein of form continues!

Kieran Tierney bursts down the left, and slides a pass into the centre of the box.

It may well have been meant for Alexandre Lacazette, but Saka is so alert that he darts in ahead of both his captain and Nathan Ake to sweep a lovely low left-footer past Ederson from 15 yards.

The Emirates erupts, the players celebrate, and, somewhere, Mikel Arteta dances around his living room.

  • Sam Dymond

Goal – Saka scores for Arsenal!

Arsenal have their reward for a fine first half!

It's Bukayo Saka with his seventh goal of the season!

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    29. Better from City.

Sterling collects possession with his back to goal, turns, and drives forward. Xhaka dives in with a challenge that – fortunately for all concerned – he misses, and then White intercepts with a tackle that he gets absolutely right.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    27. It takes three City players to block a Lacazette shot from 20 yards out.

It's been a while since Pep's men have been pulled out of position like this.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    25. Arsenal have had more than 70% of possession in the last five minutes, and if the City players didn't know they were in a game before, they do now.

They're holding firm for now, but the back four look as frantic and flustered as Pep Guardiola does on the touchline.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    23. The hosts are definitely targeting City's left where centre-back Nathan Ake is operating as a stand-in full-back.

Saka and Tomiyasu are doubling up on the former Bournemouth man, and it is bearing fruit. The Gunners are beginning to take charge.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    21. Fresh from describing Bernardo Silva's exploits with a hoover, Martin Keown now compares Kevin De Bruyne's feet to paintbrushes.

    Anyone?

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    20. It's getting a little bit feisty out there.

This all-new improved Arsenal are giving as good as they get, and that includes landing some big challenges on their opponents.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    18. De Bruyne goes for goal with a hopeful curler from outside the box.

It swerves well wide of the target. The Belgian has yet to get his eye in this afternoon.

  • Sam Dymond

Arsenal 0-0 Man City – Martinelli chance!

    16. At the other end, Gabriel Martinelli goes close to breaking the deadlock!

The Brazilian weaves his way in from the left, but is unable to squeeze his low shot past Ederson at the near post. Again, the City goalkeeper blocks with his feet.

  • Sam Dymond

Arsenal 0-0 Man City – Dias chance!

    14. How has Ruben Dias failed to score?!

Arsenal defend a City corner well, but their marking falls to pieces during its second phase. Sterling re-delivers the ball into the area from deep, straight on to the head of the unchallenged Ruben Dias.

The centre-half only needs a telling touch to beat Ramsdale and find the net, but his contact is no more than a brush and instead it drops wide.

  • Sam Dymond

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    12. The Arsenal players aren't happy, and continue to berate the referee.

At home, Mikel Arteta has probably put his foot through the television screen – and not just because of Steve McManaman's co-commentary.
