A challenge for Doucoure
It’s been a pretty dominant spell of results for the visitors, but one place where they truly dominated the match last month was in midfield.
Onana got the bulk of the plaudits, and rightly so because he was truly magnificent.
But one player that Dyche seems keen to get more out of is Doucoure.
The rangy midfielder joined from Watford in 2020, and after being a key player in the last two campaigns has found game time a little hard to come by this term.
But Dyche has laid down a challenge for the Mali international – and to read more about that one, check out the link below.
Well it’s pretty bleak reading for Everton fans if we take a look back through the historical record between the two, but don’t lose hope just yet, as it makes for much better reading in more recent meetings.
Arsenal have won 109 of 220 meetings – just shy of that 50% mark – while Everton have 65 wins to their name and a stalemate coming out of the other 46 clashes.
But while the home side tonight have the beating of the Toffees historically, Sean Dyche’s new team have proven something of a bogie team for the Gunners, with Everton winning four of the last five.
And good news for the neutral fans out there – only one of those five was decided by more than a single goal – so should be a terrific, tense battle out there tonight!
We mentioned that Partey will be monitored ahead of kick-off – Arteta has said that he’s still got to get back into ‘rhythm’ in midfield for the Gunners before he can start.
Will tonight be a step too early for the Ghanaian star?
Read below to find out more of what Arteta had to say on that topic.
We’ll get some confirmed teams for you about an hour before kick-off as per, but there are still a few bodies we know won’t be taking part tonight.
For the hosts, Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny remain sidelined by knee injuries, while Thomas Partey will be monitored despite taking to the field late on against Leicester last time out.
Everton, meanwhile, will be without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again, who is unavailable because of a thigh issue.
Joining the England forward out is Andros Townsend, who is sidelined with a long-term knee injury, while James Garner and Nathan Patterson also miss out.
Talk about a carpet – how nice does that ground look?!
Mind you, I don’t know if any of you have been outside tonight – it’s not exactly football shirt and shorts weather…
