    GOOD MORNING ARSENAL FANS

Martin Odegaard has said an emotional goodbye to the club, after returning to Real Madrid.

The Norwegian spent the second half of last season on loan in North London from the Spanish giants.

He wrote: "Thank you so much for these 6 months.

"My time with the Arsenal family will always hold a special place in my heart.

"I wanna thank everyone in and around the club for the way you made me feel like a part of the family since the first day.

"Special thanks to the fans, even without you guys at the stadium for the majority of the season, I felt you with me at all times.

"A huge thank you to the boss and his staff for everything I’ve learned during my stay.

"Thank you also to all my teammates for such a great time on and off the pitch. Will miss you all.

"Thank you, gunners family. Always in my heart."

But more positively, the Gunners' hopes of signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde have been boosted after Manchester United turned their attention elsewhere, reports suggest.

Kounde enjoyed a stunning campaign with the Andalusians as he made 49 appearances across all competitions and earned immense interest from the Premier League.

United, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be keeping tabs on the star centre-back, whose impressive performances in LaLiga earned him an international call-up by France for Euro 2020.

But Dean Jones recently told The Done Deal Show that the Red Devils are prioritising other defensive targets, mainly Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

And finally, Nuno Tavares snubbed a more lucrative contract from Real Sociedad to sign for Arsenal instead, according to reports.

The 21-year-old jetted into London on Friday to seal the £7million move from Benfica but could have ended up in Spain after Sociedad’s last-gasp bid.

Left-back Tavares is believed to have agreed a contract until 2026 in North London in a deal worth £7m plus add-ons.

Portuguese agent Cesar Boaventura and UK-based agency Sync Global were vital in ensuring Tavares chose Arsenal instead of Sociedad, according to the Mail.

Despite the LaLiga outfit being willing to cough up more cash, Boaventura is said to have convinced him to stick with Mikel Arteta’s men.

Arsenal’s chances of signing Celtic star Odsonne Edouard have increased due to Leicester reportedly withdrawing their interest in the striker.

Brendan Rodgers was believed to be keen on Edouard having signed the Frenchman while at Celtic.

But the Foxes completed a deal forward Patson Daka from RB Salzburg for £23million earlier this week.

Daka has signed a five-year contract and is viewed as Jamie Vardy’s long-term successor.

And according to the Daily Record that deal is expected to end Leicester’s interest in Edouard.

The report claims Leicester do not have enough left in the transfer budget to move for Edouard.

And the Midlands club reportedly expect Celtic will be difficult to deal with when negotiating a deal, as 50 per cent of the transfer fee will be owed to Paris Saint-Germain.

    PHONE HOME

Gareth Southgate has admitted ‘we can’t stop business happening’ after Jadon Sancho’s move to Manchester United was confirmed this week.

Asked by ITV whether the winger’s situation has subdued his efforts, the England boss said: “No, in fact I think Jadon over the last seven days has trained the best level in the time with us.

“You accept there are lots of ongoing transfer situations and nobody is coming in for talks, nobody is going out for talks.

“But we can’t stop people’s phones ringing and we can’t stop business happening outside of that and you just have to trust the players and they’re all very focused.

“I haven’t really had a long discussion with him about it at this moment, because that story’s been going on for 12 months.

“When everything’s confirmed I’m sure I’ll have a chat with him.

“But there’s so much speculation about all of our players, I don’t pick up every little individual piece but I’m checking in with the players every single day to see how they are and the biggest thing is he’s been very focused in his training and that’s been good.”

A deal for Saliba, 20, has also been completed according to Nicolo Schira, and the defender will spend the season at Marseille.

He will then return to the Emirates but after also spending last season on loan at Nice he may have to fight for a place in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

    WRIGHT PRAISES XHAKA

Arsenal legend Ian Wright heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka after his performances at Euro 2020.

Speaking on ITV's Football Show Podcast, he said: "That is the best I’ve ever seen him [Xhaka] play.

"I feel for him because he’s someone I’ve been very critical of in the past and when you see a performance like, do you blame him or the coaches for not getting those performances out of him in the past?

"I have never seen him used to that effect. There’s no way Arsenal should be selling a player that can play like that, at that level.

"So unfortunately for us it looks like he is going but I’m delighted for him because he’s answered a lot of critics. He was magnificent."

    INTEREST KOOLED

Man Utd have cooled their interest in highly rated centre-back Jules Kounde.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Old Trafford is an unlikely destination for Kounde.

Jones suggested on The Done Deal Show that the likes of Pau Torres of Villarreal and Raphael Varane of Real Madrid are higher up on the list.

Man Utd backing off from the French international is a boost for both north London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham.

Both have held interest in Kounde in the past.

And Sevilla could be tempted to part was with the defender if they receive a bid worth £50m.
