Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Notts Forest build-up, Ramsey targered, Vlahovic LATEST, Maitland-Niles to Roma complete

ARSENAL are set for a battle for the return of Aaron Ramsey, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton all interested in the Welsh midfielder.

Elsewhere, Dusan Vlahovic, 21, remains a target for Mikel Arteta, but the Gunners would need to get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang first.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles' loan switch to Jose Mourinho's Roma has been confirmed, six months after the versatile midfielder's social media plea to be let go.

Meanwhile, former Gunners target Philippe Coutinho has joined up with Steven Gerrard on loan at Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta's side are plotting to face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round, where they will wear an all-white kit to make a stand against knife crime in London.

Elneny's impact equal to Salah for Eygpt

Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny is just as important for Eygpt as Liverpool's Mo solah, former Chelsea star Geremi has claimed.

The Gunners midfielder is off to represent Eygpt at the AFCON Cup alongside Salah.

And Geremi reckons both stars will have the same impact for their country in the tournament.

The ex-Blue told the Metro: “Mohamed Elneny is also a standout for Egypt, he is an experienced player at the top level and always consistent for Arsenal when he gets the chance to play – and just as important as Mo Salah is for Egypt.”

    Not Keane on Arsenal

Roy Keane reckons Arsenal's 'softness' is holding them back.

Keane praised the Gunners for improving their form from the start of the season.

But the United legend thinks Mikel Arteta's troops are lacking the resilience needed to get to the next level.

He told ITV: "Considering where they were at the start of the season when they were under huge pressure. They’ve recovered well and got themselves in a good position.

“There’s some really great, exciting young players but I still feel there’s a softness. They’ve lost against the better teams and that’s where they need to improve.”

Patino wants Lacazette to stay at Arsenal

Arsenal starlet Patino wants Lacazette to stay at Arsenal.

Lacazette's contract with the Gunners is up in the summer and his future remains uncertain.

The French star's been linked with a move away this month but has been putting in some stellar shifts upfront for the Gunners recently as the club's captain.

And Patino's joined the legion of Gooners who want Lacazette to pen a new deal although he's got no clue if his fellow team-mate plans to do so or not.

Speaking with NepentheZ on Facebook Livestream, Patino said: “I do as well [want him to stay].

“I don’t know any information on him, if he’s staying or not, I know as much as you, but he’s working hard in training and doing what the manager wants from him and leading the line with the armband, so he’s obviously doing something right."

Wright tells Gunners – sign Wijnaldum

Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to sign Georgino Wijnaldum to solve their midfield crisis.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted on Friday that he wants to bolster his squad this month after being left ‘short’ in that area.

However, Arsenal’s former star striker Wright is adamant that Paris Saint-Germain’s wantaway Dutchman is the man to solve their problems.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said: “I saw Wijnaldum's name. That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.

“Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.

“Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.”

    Wenger scuppered Mata's Arsenal transfer

Arsenal missed out on signing Juan Mata from Valencia in 2011 according to the club's former transfer negotiator Dick Law.

The Spanish playmaker had agreed personal terms with the Gunners about making the switch to North London, but the club dithered over the price tag set by the LaLiga outfit.

This led rivals Chelsea to swoop in and secure the services of Mata, who had chipped in with nine goals and 188 assists in 43 games during the 2010-11 season.

Arsenal were crying out for a creative midfielder as they looked to replace Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who were seeking an exit from the club.

But Arsene Wenger and the club were put off by the combined value of the transfer fee for Mata as well as his contract, which would have totalled £37million.

Arteta responds to Liverpool Saka interest

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta thinks that it is a ‘good sign’ when his best players get linked with moves away.

Bukayo Saka has recently been touted in some quarters for a transfer to Liverpool.

With a January transfer extremely unlikely to happen, Arteta thinks that the Gunners should be ‘proud’ of the attention.

He said: “I think that’s great news when you have a lot of talk and people willing for your players, it’s a really good sign.

“They should be proud because that means they are doing extremely good work.”

    Mika Biereth in first-team squad

Arsenal academy star Mika Biereth is in Mikel Arteta's matchday squad for today's FA Cup Third Round tie against Nottingham Forest.

The 18-year-old Dane has seven goals and three assists in 15 Premier League 2 games.

Biereth is believed to have 'superb' finishing.

    Kevin on Gunners' future

Campbell, who was at Arsenal from 1988 to 1995, is hugely excited about the young talent at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.

He said: “These youngsters are special. We may not see them really flourish until a couple of seasons’ time but it’s exciting. The foundations are set now.

“The key is they have to taste success because that is the catalyst to push you forward. It makes you learn how to win.

“These players have to play, get over the line and learn what it is like to win and be under pressure. Once they do that, then they jump to the next level."

On Aubameyang's potential exit, he added: “I think Arsenal really need to address. Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak have been mentioned.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been mentioned too but Everton need him. If Everton get rid of him, who do they replace him with? That’s the hard part.”

More from Campbell on Forest vs Arsenal

Campbell added: "If you have possession of a Premier League spot, you have to protect it for dear life because it’s so difficult to get there.

“We won the Championship title, we were back up and the club decided to shoot themselves in the foot.

“We had something in that dressing room that was special, to be able to bounce back from disappointment and go again, win the Championship… you add that and I think you’re in a really good spot.

“But they decided to pull it all apart. They brought players in who hadn’t played in the Premier League.

“It was a mess. I was looking at it from afar and I was cringing. It still makes no sense to me.”

Ex-Gunner Campbell on Forest fire – Exclusive

Kevin Campbell says Nottingham Forest’s near 25-year exile from the Premier League is down to selling HIM against his wishes.

Forest had just bounced back from relegation by winning the Championship in 1998, with Campbell and Pierre van Hooijdonk netting 57 goals between them.

But the club’s new owners decided to flog Campbell to Turkish side Trabzonspor, as well as club captain Colin Cooper to Middlesbrough.

It proved to be a disastrous move that sparked dressing-room disharmony.

Forest ended up bottom of the top flight — and have not been back since.

Campbell, 51, lamented to SunSport: “One million per cent that was what led to Forest being out of the Premier League for so long.”

    Good morning Arsenal fans

Arsenal have officially announced Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined Roma on loan for the rest of the season.

The deal does not include the option to buy and comes after Maitland-Niles made just two Premier League starts this campaign.

Having spent north of £30million on Tammy Abraham in the summer, the Giallorossi will have to raise funds through player sales in order to afford a permanent move at a later date.

The midfielder joins compatriots Abraham and Chris Smalling in the Italian capital.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic would 'love' to play under Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.

Vlahovic is a major Arsenal target amid the ongoing January transfer window and this sort of ambition poses as a concern.

According to 90Min, the striker is a big fan of Spurs manager Conte and would like to join forces with him one day.

The Serbia international, who is willing to wait until the summer to move away from the Viola, is also linked with Tottenham who are likely to lose star man Harry Kane in the summer.

And Arsenal are looking to splash £40m on Lyon star Bruno Guimaraes, according to the Evening Standard.

But the Gunners face competition as Newcastle and Everton are both also claimed to be keeping tabs on Guimaraes during the January transfer window.

Lyon are unlikely to sanction a move in January, but a potential end of season transfer could well be on the cards.

Guimaraes confirmed last summer that he was approached from the north Londoners and said: "I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League."

Finally, Arsenal have joined the transfer race to sign Aaron Ramsey and bring him back to the Emirates.

Ramsey has been told he can leave Juventus in January and is eyeing a return to the Premier League.

Burnley confirmed their interest in the midfielder, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton also keen.

Now the Gunners are allegedly in the chase to re-sign the Wales international, who left them in 2019.

That is according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, who wrote: “Juventus, #Ramsey transfer: #Newcastle and #CrystalPalace options remain valid, still interested in the midfielder.

“Further back – at the moment – the positions of #Everton and #Arsenal”

    Turk-ing the mick

Arsenal hero Kevin Campbell claims Nottingham Forest’s near 25-year exile from the Premier League is down to selling him to Trabzonspor against his wishes in 1998.

Campbell told SunSport ahead of the Gunners' FA Cup clash with Forest: “One million per cent that was what led to Forest being out of the Premier League for so long.

    Bele ache

Barcelona boss Xavi was left ‘speechless’ after Ousmane Dembele demanded £700,000-a-week to sign a new contract.

That is according to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg, who claims Dembele made that request amid links with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Newcastle and Arsenal.

The forward is out of contract at the end of the season and can negotiate with teams outside of Spain this month.

But Barca remain hopeful they can convince the France international to extend his stint at the Nou Camp

    Middle man

As previously reported, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new midfielder this month.

A signing could come through via permanent deal or loan agreement during the January transfer window.

That is because Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny will compete in the African Cup of Nations whereas Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been loaned out to Roma.

Arteta said: "We are going to move there and we are going to look for options because we are very short there”

Ramsey has been told he can leave Juventus this month and is eyeing a return to the Premier League.

Burnley confirmed their interest in the midfielder yesterday, with Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Everton also keen.

Now the Gunners are allegedly in the chase to sign the Wales international, who left them in 2019.

That is according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, who provided this update on Ramsey’s situation on Twitter.

    Double trouble

Manchester City are targeting Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic and Real Sociedad ace Alexander Isak.

That is according to The Athletic, whose report works as a major blow for Arsenal who are targeting both Vlahovic and Isak.

City see both highly-rated strikers as alternatives to Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.

The Gunners will need to strengthen in attack as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah's contract runs out in June, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out of the squad due to a disciplinary breach

    Dest buy

Barcelona ace Sergino Dest could be available for €40million (£33.4m) this month.

Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic is not yet convinced he wants to move to Arsenal.

That is according to 90min, who report that Vlahovic is in no rush to sort out his future.

Playing in the Champions League is also imperative for the star striker, who has also been linked with Tottenham and Newcastle.

    Kane backup

Fiorentina star and Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic is seen by Tottenham as a potential backup for Harry Kane.

That is according to Football London, who claim Spurs are looking for someone to fill in for Kane.

However, Vlahovic may not be too intrigued for that role and is taking his time deciding on his future.

Nevertheless, Kane came close to an exit last summer and the same could happen at the end of the season

    Saka rumours

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta dismissed rumours linking Bukayo Saka to a shock move to Liverpool.
