'A God-given certainty' – Harry Cobden explains why Jonbon is untouchable in the Arkle at Cheltenham Festival | The Sun

HARRY COBDEN has revealed in depth why he feels Jonbon is a 'God-given certainty' in the Arkle.

Speaking at Sun Racing's Cheltenham Festival preview night, Paul Nicholls' No1 jockey also insisted Gerri Colombe is a 'good thing' in the Brown Advisory.

Cobden has three massive rides of his own on Tahmuras in the Supreme, Ballymore fav Hermes Allen and huge Gold Cup hope Bravemansgame.

But quizzed by host Matt Chapman on his idea of the winner in the 2m chase on day one, Cobden was absolutely unequivocal in his answer.

Cobden, who was brilliant on stage throughout the evening, said of the JP McManus-owned runner: "I think Jonbon is a God-given certainty.

"Honestly, I think he is an unbelievable horse.

"I was a big doubter at the start of the season. He had a hard race in the Supreme last year and got absolutely smashed by one of the greatest horses we have ever seen in Constitution Hill.

"Jonbon went to Aintree, and for a horse to run there after a hard race at Cheltenham… I promise, the amount of horses I have ridden for Paul doing the same, 80 per cent of them flop.

"It's not just the race at Cheltenham. The horses are on edge, it's the occasion, there are 70,000 people there.

"You give the horse a hard race even if they finish fourth.

"Jonbon beat El Fabiolo (in the Grade 1 at Aintree) and this horse really puts his head out.

"He's a proper trier and Aidan Coleman really believes in him.

"Hendo has only had him half-fit all season, he's going to go there 100 per cent and I honestly think he will win."

Fellow panelist Lilly Pinchin was in agreement, while Mattie Batchelor added: "Jonbon will jump them into submission."

Jonbon has been replaced as fav in the race by Willie Mullins' El Fabiolo who is 6-4 market leader.

Jonbon, a £570,000 brother to Douvan, has gone out to 13-8.

Cobden couldn't say enough good things about Gordon Elliott's Gerri Colombe in the Brown Advisory either.

The Robcour-owned seven-year-old won a point-to-point over 3m but the race for novice chasers will be half a furlong longer.

Cobden doesn't think the trip will be an issue at all for the dual Grade 1 winner.

He said of the 7-4 fav: "I saw him at Sandown and I rode in the race he won last time out.
