With beauty salons closed yet again, many of us have been left in need of some serious TLC for our nails.

Those who treated themselves to a Christmas acrylic mani will now also be left with some severe regrowth and may be desperately searching for a way to remove their fake nails at home.

But one TikTok user is claiming to have discovered a way to make acrylic manicures last for months, with a hack that will make your nails look good as new.

“Too lazy / don’t have the money to get a fill,” she captions the video.

In the short clip that was liked by 1.5 million people, TikTok user named @kay._.lianah soaked off her manicured nails before loosening them with tweezers and removing them with a flossing stick.

Once in place, the TikToker tidies up her manicure with a nail file and paints on a coat of clear polish – and her nails really do look good as new.

Kay’s followers seemed impressed with the finished look, with one follower commenting: “That’s so smart.”

But this nail trend isn’t new in the TikTok world, as another beauty fan shared a similar hack last summer where she can be seen removing off her fake nails with a flossing stick.

Raquelita Cruz was slammed by industry experts for influencing users to remove their nails forcefully with floss.

“Nail tech here, please don’t do this,” one person said.

“This will cause so much damage to your natural nail, it is no joke. Please don’t do this, just get them soaked off,” another wrote.

Many fans agreed, urging the TikTok star to soak off her nails with 100 per cent acetone – a process used in nail salons to reduce damage to the natural nails.

If you’re struggling with grown out acrylic nails, we recommend wrapping your nails in acetone-soaked cotton wool and securing with tin foil.

Once your fake nails have softened, use a file and a buffer to carefully remove the excess acrylic.

We’ll agree with the experts on this one – leave floss for your teeth.
