The Great British Bake Off viewers have accused the show of being ‘racist’ after fan favourite Sura Selvarajah was eliminated – making her the third BAME person to leave the tent in just four weeks.

In last night’s episode of the Channel 4 show, the 31-year-old pharmacy worker failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with her ‘raw’ white chocolate celebration cake during the Showstopper round.

The shock elimination came after diagnostic radiographer Loriea, from Durham, was eliminated from the Channel 4 show in week one, while Makbul Patel was the second BAME person to leave the tent the following week – despite contestant Rowan experiencing three disastrous bakes.

And those who tuned in took straight to the comments section to discuss the results – with some saying they noticed a ‘trend.’

Many viewers took to the comments section to accuse the Channel 4 show of being racist (pictured)

‘Yet another #BAME contestant leaves #GBBO It’s looking like more than a coincidence,’ while another simply penned: #GBBO is racist!’ wrote one, while a second penned:

‘Mak and Sura had one bad week and they got sent home. Lottie, Rowan and Linda have been worse over a number of weeks and survived. What a joke!’

Matt Lucas delivered the devastating news to Sura and said: ‘It is someone who we are all really fond of but had a bad week, so the baker who will be leaving us this week is… Sura.’

The tearful baker added: ‘I am gutted but what’s done is done, I’m not going to be bitter about it, I’ve had a great time.’

Taking to Twitter, one person penned: ‘I am watching Bake Off for the time ever and all I am seeing is that the star baker is always a man and the eliminated baker is always a person of color’ (pictured)

But fans were left devastated after the judges deliberated between sending Sura or 31-year-old pantomime producer, Lottie, home.

‘I’m watching #BakeOff for the first time ever and all I am seeing is that the star baker is always a man and the eliminated baker is always a person of color,’ commented one.

A second wrote: ‘Here we go only one BAME left all the others white British Irish Scottish they will scream the Bake Off is Racist I can see it Now…..’

However, others defending the judges choice of elimination on the basis that Sura produced a ‘raw’ cake for her showstopper.

‘Why did Sura look so shocked when she was voted off? Can’t serve a raw cake and expect to stay! It’s the bake off equivalent of scoring an own goal and shouting at the keeper,’ wrote one.

A second added: ‘I liked Sura but come on people moaning about it being unfair…she made a raw cake! I mean, on the bake off she didn’t bake the cake.’

Talking after her elimination, a tearful Sura said: ‘I am gutted but what’s done is done, I’m not going to be bitter about it, I’ve had a great time.’
