My 84-year-old mum helps me cope with depression and I am scared of her dying

DEAR DEIDRE: I WORRY about how I will cope when my elderly mum is no longer able to help me.

I suffer with social anxiety and depression and have done throughout my life. I am a 58-year-old man.

I live alone and see my mum a couple of times a week when she comes to my flat. She also calls me every day.

I’m barely able to function a lot of the time. On a good day I may go for a walk or possibly do some food shopping.

The rest of the time I either watch television or spend the day in bed with the curtains closed.

I don’t have friends and have never had a girlfriend. Mum is 84 and her health is deteriorating.

Her memory is getting worse and I know that soon she won’t be able to support me so much.

I am becoming more and more desperate about what is going to happen when she is gone.
