Mum gives son’s bedroom a DIY superhero makeover using second hand and B&Q buys

A creative mum has given her little boy’s bedroom a gorgeous superhero-themed makeover on a budget.

Erin Teasdale, 24, a mum-of-one from Mansfield, decided to create a yellow and black room for her son who's three.

The DIY-savvy parent spent less than £400 by buying second-hand furniture from Facebook Marketplace.

She also printed off her own wall prints and bought cheap accessories from IKEA and B&M.

Erin told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk : “This is our first official home.

“Since my partner and I got together six years ago we’ve never settled properly so I wanted to make our house a home and Travis’ room was always going to be first."

She continued: "I started off by his favourite colour being yellow and then looked for themes to go around it.

“He’s very into superheroes and things at the moment but I also wanted it to be a more ‘grown up’ colour scheme so that he can grow with it and just change the yellow as and when.”

Most of the items from the little boy’s room are from the internet.

Some prints are from Etsy while Erin printed others off for free and framed them.

The duvet, cushions and lights can be bought on Amazon.

The mum said: “The rugs were £30 off Amazon, the bookshelves under the bed were from IKEA for £3 each and all the photo frames were from B&M costing between £3 for a pack of three small ones to £6 each for the A3 ones.

"The bed was second hand off Facebook Marketplace for £100 and the drawers are second hand too for £25."

She continued: “The RRP was £180 and £50 if I had bought them new.

"I upcycled the bed myself using Brooklyn interior paint from B&Q.”

Erin added a black throw to Travis’ old cot mattress to create the bunk under his bed.

While she painted shelves that she already owned black and bought a £12 light from Amazon which she painted yellow.

Erin added: “All the wall stickers are off Etsy, and the personalised superhero prints are from a lady called RosieCreates on Etsy – she was so unbelievably patient with me as I changed a lot of my order and they are fab quality!

“The wooden signs I have are from Teddy&Co on Instagram. They were only £10, £13 and £14.

“In total, the room transformation cost about £400.”

Even Travis helped with his bedroom as he aided mum in painting the yellow wall.

Erin said: "He helped me paint the yellow wall which was also a nice bonding activity as he was very involved in it all!”

Now, the little boy is “over the moon” with his bedroom.
