MTV is bringing back Punk’d – the famous prank show which played with household names such as Drake, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna.
This time, however, the format is having a revamp for the mobile-first streaming platform Quibi. Here is the lowdown…
When does it start?
The episodes will not actually be airing on TV.
Instead, fans will have to sign up to Quibi – a platform that’s mainly focused on providing video content all under 10 minutes in length.
It’s not been revealed when the show is expected to make its arrival on Quibi, but given that the network has already confirmed the return, it would seem an official release date will follow shortly.
While STXtelevision will be producing the 20-episode series, MTV Studios will remain involved in some capacity.
MTV president Chris McCarthy shared: ‘This deal builds on MTV’s strategy of reinventing our iconic shows to reach new audiences on pioneering new platforms like Quibi”.
Is Ashton Kutcher still hosting the show?
The official press release confirming the return of Punk’d, via The Hollywood Reporter, made no mention of Ashton’s involvement in the revamped format.
However, that shouldn’t rule out the possibility that the Hollywood actor – who previously hosted and executive produced the show – won’t be back.
The TV programme originally ran from 2003 until 2007 before King Bach and DeStorm Power briefly took over the hosting duties for its 2015 revival.
Which celebs are likely to fall victim?
It’s been years since the show has pranked celebrities, and given all the new talent that has emerged in that time, producers won’t have to look far for famous people to target.
Given the popularity of social media influencers, it’s very likely that the likes of James Charles, Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star will get pranked.
The Kardashians would of course be a very popular choice too.
