If your chewing gum flies out of your mouth to land on the carpet or an item of clothing, it quickly embeds itself and can be very tricky to remove.

Most of us are bang out of ideas, save for cutting out the minty terror, but Kim Woodburn is a lady that doesn't go down without a fight.

"Sorry it is funny though… or chewing gum on their carpet. "

Kim then proceeded to chew a piece of gum, remove it from her mouth and smear it straight in the centre of a cashmere sweater.

Holding up the now-stained item, she said: “I’m not going to attempt to bring this off because already it will bring threads of the sweater.”

She then folded the sweater over so that the chewing gum was inside, and then placed it in a sandwich bag, explaining that the reason she folded the sweater was so the gum did not stick to the plastic.

Next, Kim put the bag into her freezer, saying: “I will leave that a good day and a half to two days, because when I go back it will be rock hard, and I’ll just go 'ping', and I’ll ping it off. And that’s how you do it, it’s as simple as that. No pulling and tugging, you just ping it off."

As for gum on the carpet, Kim offered an alternative to the tried and tested method of hacking away at it with scissors, revealing: "All you do is simply get a bag of frozen peas, or get a load of ice and put it in small bag, then throw it on the carpet, on that chewing gum, and let it go rock hard.

"When it melts the ice, put another bag on top. Two or three ice cubes, and there again you will be able to get a knife and go chip, chip, chip.”

However, in true Kim style she ended the video with the best tip of all, saying: "But my advice to you is don’t get chewing gum on your stuff, how old are you? Grow up!"
