Meghan Markle is having a year full of the highest highs and the lowest lows. She gave birth to her son, Archie Harrison, in May. But in the midst of that joy and excitement, she has also had to deal with an almost constant barrage of tabloid rumors and negative stories about her.
Still, throughout all of the drama, Markle has several very special people that she can lean on: her husband, Prince Harry, and her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Middleton has become one of Markle’s close confidantes and she was able to help Markle weather a serious family crisis.
Did Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have a feud?
When Duchess Meghan officially joined the royal family in May 2018, many royal watchers probably thought that the rumors concerning her would die down. Instead, they only got worse.
Right after Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry, reports started surfacing that Markle was locked in a bitter feud with her new sister-in-law, Duchess Kate. Rumors suggested that the two women couldn’t see eye to eye on anything and that the Duchess of Cambridge thought the Duchess of Sussex was “difficult.”
Even so, royal experts spoke out and stated that there was simply no truth to the feud rumors and that the two duchesses were just very different people. People seem set on pitting the two women together, in spite of their dramatically different upbringings and life circumstances. Fashion blogs compared their clothing choices, their hairstyles, and how they “bounced back” after giving birth to their children.
Still, it seems that in spite of the constant tabloid negativity, the two women had already established their own special connection.

It’s no secret that Markle has had a lot of problems with her family. She has had ongoing issues with both her half-sister, Samantha Markle, and her father, Thomas Markle. The drama with her father started immediately prior to Duchess Meghan’s wedding and only intensified after Baby Archie was born, with Thomas Markle reaching out to tabloids, reiterating again and again how much he would like to meet his new grandson.
In the middle of it all, reports surfaced that the Duchess of Sussex was able to find a sympathetic ear in the Duchess of Cambridge. According to royal sources, Duchess Kate has been a “pillar of support” for Meghan Markle, quietly offering her support as the tabloid circus rages on. Those same royal sources state that Middleton has made a big effort to be particularly kind to Markle, knowing that she’s been dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil due to her family’s drama.

Middleton’s support for Markle is nothing new, contrary to popular opinion. In July 2018, a news story revealed that Middleton and Markle had actually formed a tight friendship and that in spite of their differences, they get along very well. The source revealed that Middleton was particularly sympathetic to Markle’s family problems and greatly disapproves with how the media has treated her. After all, although Middleton is beloved by fans now, she also had her own difficult times with the press, in the early days of her relationship with Prince William.
These reports are substantiated by the fact that Markle and Middleton have been seen on several outings together recently: Once at Wimbledon and then again at a polo match, where Middleton brought her three children and Markle brought Baby Archie. Although the future will undoubtedly bring more troubles for Markle, she has a friend to rely on in Middleton.
