DEAR DEIDRE: HELP! I’ve been called for jury service and I don’t want to do it.
I’ve tried to get out of it but they told me I don’t have a valid excuse, so I’ll be fined if I don’t turn up.
But I’m just a 19-year-old girl, and I’m too scared to do it.
I’ll be so out of my depth and I’m worried the case will be a nasty one.
Worrying about it is making me so stressed I can’t sleep.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s natural to be nervous about a new and daunting experience.
But, like many fears, the thought of it is probably far worse than the reality.
Ask people you know if they’ve done jury service and they can reassure you.
However, if you’re so anxious the prospect is making you ill, you might be excused. See gov.uk/jury-service for details.
