Cleaning fans explain how to remove grease and grime from oven racks for just 8p

Even if you love a good cleaning session there are some jobs that are frustrating to get stuck into – and scrubbing the oven clean is one of them.

And, while many of us have invested in oven sheets and protectors for the bottom of the appliance, the racks can get ingrained with grease and food grime.

If your shelves have gone a little black or grubby from burnt on food and fat then removing the mess is a full afternoon task.

You can snap up oven cleaning kits from the supermarket – just make sure you’re careful with the products as they can be very strong and hurt skin, wood floors and clothing.

But, one cleaning fanatic recently shared a cheaper and easier way to make your oven sparkle.

A post on a Mrs Hinch Facebook group asked about cleaning an oven, reports the Daily Express.

The post read: "Hey guys, new to the group, I'm renting a house and the racks in the oven must have years of cooked-on grease.

The post read: "Hey guys, new to the group, I'm renting a house and the racks in the oven must have years of cooked-on grease.

"Please can you guys suggest any other thing that will work I will try anything!"

And, fellow members did not disappoint.

One person replied: "Soak in the bath with a dishwasher tablet."

A second wrote: "Soak your shelves in the bath with dishwasher tablets! Amazing!"

A third added: "Have you tried a dishwasher tablet rubbed on neat then put in bath with a few more to soak overnight?"

While another person explained: "Put them into a giant tub or the bath. Run the hot water and add in four dishwasher tablets.

“Leave them for about four hours, and then check them. They will come up with a scrubber like brand new."

The clever tip could cost you just 8p to do as a pack of 12 Five-in-One tablets at The Range for just £1 which works out at just over 8p a tablet.

Plus, you can snap up 30 All-in-One Dishwasher tablets from ASDA costing £2.65.

That’s just 9p per tablet and per oven soak.
